PC Microphones
Hello everyone,
I have been doing web search on this issue for a long time now, not really getting anywhere. I have a pair of Sennheiser hd-595 headphones, so I have no desire to buy a brand new headset. Instead I am looking for a decent microphone to pair it up with, preferably clip on.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? ... man%20tech
I bought this clip on a while ago, and while it clips on nicely to the wire, the microphone ends up pointing in the wrong direction, but even if held properly, people tell me I sound distant/muffled. I have been using this microphone since my Microsoft gamevoice headset broke (I wore it around my neck, just so I could use the mic, which was on an adjustable stick.) Something to keep in mind is I am not really looking for another headset to put around my neck. I'd like to avoid doing that because I'll be spending money and the headphones portion that I wont use. This is why I'd prefer something that is just a mic, so that all the money I spend goes towards the mic.
I am not sure what to do about this. I'd rather not buy a desktop mic, because they get in the way, and forces you to stay in a certain position. Does anyone have any recommendations? Price doesn't matter too much, if it ends up working very well for me, I wont ever have to replace it. However I saw some wireless clip on microphones (talk show style) that are around $700, which clearly is way way too expensive. It doesn't need to be wireless.
Thank you

I would still suggest getting a desktop mic. I use one with my, well now broken Bose Triport AE headphones. If you ask me, a cheap desktop mic for like $10 or less would be your best bet. I use a $30 Logitech USB desktop Mic an its fine.
Unless you are going to buy a whole new headset, get a desktop mic... simple as that.

Re: PC Microphones
Lies, I never break stuff, my hardware loves me. I just hate them, it would clutter my desktop, the sound isn't great. What I do know is a lot of people who use voice in TF2/CSS just are unhearable or sound too distorted to make out. I know they are using the cheap 10 dollar mics, cause I do actually have one as well and people have already told me they have issues hearing me. It pics up so much background noise (and trust me, there really is none) I just avoid those.
Has anyone seen collar mics?

No, he'd rather buy a cheap mic he can't use.

lol. Well yeah. I mean, what is the point of buying a microphone so you can talk to people, and the people you are talking to can't understand anything you say.

well could the bad understanding of your speaking while conversing over the microphone on the internets be the cause of bad internets?

I bought a $20 one because Dog was being mean and laughting at me for not being able to talk one night. I have a logitech on for just over a year before that mic stoped working and the one I have now I bought at walmart and works well so far. If you are like my and almost never use the head set and just play with it around your neck get the desktop one cause its cheap and cheap stuff is your friend!!! But do what makes you happy thats all that matters.

My original desktop mic that I got for like 5 bucks back in the day still works, but I lost it when I was moving, so i replaced it with a cheap 9.99 walmart special. Still works

Hrm, I know I've played games with you, but I am not sure I've heard you speak. Next time I see you I'll have to join your team and check.
On a side note, I want to talk about the mic I currently have. I decided to do more research on it, and a lot of people claim that it works quite well. Then I decided to run sound recorder, and listen to myself (I realize that over TS/Vent/In game chat voice is not as clear, due to codecs and bandwidth) and it sounded quite clear. However with that said, the volume is Mic boosted (+20db) and max volume, and it is still pretty low.
So I did some checking, it almost sounds like my sound card is not giving it enough power (desktop mics have batteries in them for power if sound cards need it) so I am amusing that Audigy 2 sound cards have weak microphone inputs.
Does anyone know anything about this? Kind of sucks to find out that the mic I have now is good enough (convenient, good quality, nice and tucked away as it is connected and wrapped around my headphones wire) and doesn't work because creative went cheap on the microphone input.

Re: PC Microphones
Well, this might be over now. Last night there was a sale on NCIX.com, Assassins Creed + PC-121 Sennheiser headset for 40 bucks, decided to take it and use the headset as a collar mic. Not quite the solution I was hoping for, but a game I wanted to buy and a seemingly cheap, high quality mic solution presented itself. Also ended up yoinking two 500gb hard drives for raid 0 and a 9600gt for 108 dollars. Finally get to have 30+ fps in TF2 heh. Hell, it'll just be nice not going to 15 fps, never mind be 30+.
Thanks for all your input.
