Delete a system folder

Post by Gamepro65 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 9:19 pm

Hey guys, i have 2 windows system folders from having to reinstall my copy of xp a few times. Currently there are two folders Windows and Windows.old.000 that i am trying to get rid of. However because at one point they were system files the access is denied. Does anyone have a tip forgetting rid of them? They currently take up 13 gigs of my HD combine!

One thing about reinstalling XP... or any operating system... format the drive? Using recovery disks brings up these situations.

In order to get rid of them, try this program: Unlocker

Now when you use it, be careful though. Read the instruction thoroughly.

Keep in mind, your "Windows.Old" folder will have old my docs and whatnot in it. And one other thing, can u take a picture of your Windows Explorer and all these folders you wish to delete? You shouldnt be deleting any "Windows" folders as thats your operating system and deleting it would be a very bad thing. deleting "Windows.Old" is fine though.

You could just use rmdir in the command prompt.

rmdir /s C:\Windows.old.000

Replace C with the correct drive letter.

You could, but you would at the very least need root access to do that. I know how to get it, but its not the easiest. From his user privleges, he would get an access denied form some of the files and folders.
