9800 GTX, i realised i forgot to post about this

So... yeah the 9800 GTX was released 3 days ago. It appears to retail for $340.

Ive done the proper research on it and what not... its not worth gettin if you ask me. Continue to get the 8800GT and 8800 GTS. You have processing power that's a little less than 4% higher (most 8800 GTS's are OC'ed to the 675MHz core clock anyway) and offers 13% greater memory bandwidth, all for 27% more money. Compare the specs, not much difference. When i saw the price i kinda sat up in my chair, but when i saw the specs, i leaned way back. the 9800GTX is nothing special, just another release my nVidia.

I figured i'd post bc ya know the GTX is actually supposed to be something. This time around, the 9800 GTX is not, it does not live up to its predecessor. It has 256MB less RAM and a 128-bit smaller memory bus. The only thing better with the 9800 GTX is that is has more transistors, 100MHz faster core clock and 200MHz faster memory clock, which you should expect from the smaller process technology.

If you ask me, i dont think it deserves the GTX tag... GTS at best, but wait, nVidia already screwed up the 9000 series releases. I would expect a single GPU card from nVidia that matches the 8800 Ultra sometime this summer.

I may... but i still dont think it lives up to the GTX standard. nVidias releases screwed themselves up for high end single GPU cards.

Im contemplating puttin my Ultras up on Amazon, see if someone will buy em i may make a good buck there. and then utilize my x1800xt's untill the new high end single GPU 9800 is released.

I bought 2 9800gtx's. (Coming from 8800gts 320 SLI though).
I also had a 9800gx2 for about 24 hours. The 9800gx2 to me was not worth anywhere near the $600. Its now in a designers machine at my work lol. The 9800gtx sli actually get out classed in 3dmark06 by the 8800's. I was a little bummed till I loaded up tf2 and crysis and saw a huge leap. Mind you never base anything just on 3dmark but I was stunned I now hit 299fps in tf2 at 1680x1050 and close to 50fps in crysis with everything high.

For the price of $329 per card I was not going to save 20 per card on the 8800gts 512 ssc (newegg)

Anyway there are some wierd issues with the card. They are thicker then the 8800gtx's and I can now not water cool my southbridge on the 780i. (looking for a new waterblock that will allow me too).

Imho do not buy these if you have any g92 card or g80gtx ultra. (your getting the same perfomance). Anything under that I believe its a good buy.

Beware of the driver related issues with not being able to change the fan speed with the buggy nvidia control panel. Use riva tuner and you will need to add a line in the config for the second card if you have two or 3 in sli(haven't tested tri sli yet).
