ATI to do a permanent price drop on 3850 512MB and 3870

Read here, if this does happen, then ATI will be a fine choice for the lower end cards... a very very fine choice.

look at the charts at here at tomshardware and you will see how the 3870 ranks... and for less than $160... that is one fine choice if you ask me.

One other suggestion to anyone.... get 2, 2 of either of these... i highly suggest the 3870... i mean why not. But 2 of these in crossfire would most certainly outperform any G92 8800 GT or GTS.

Meh, I picked up a 9600GT on Thursday for $129, thought it would be a good choice to replace the 8300GS (whatever the heck that is) that came with my Dell.

i think i mentioned it in another thread. certainly a great deal for anyone who cant afford a high end 8800 or 9800 nvidia card. they perfrom quite well and use much less power than high end cards. hell it even makes crossfire affordable.
