Finally its going to happen, dont tell the wife, NEW COMP

Post by Yellow Submarine » Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:09 pm

Hey there fellow villuns.

I am finally going to build my dream comp or close enough. I am tired of lagging out on DOD and not being able to play Source I bought last year. I am bran-spanking new at this and would appreciate any suggestions.

I can get at new egg

case......49.99
video card......209.99 (GeForce 8800GT, 512mb, 256bit, 670MHz
550W power supply......59.99
4GB, 2x2GB corsair....84.00
DVD/CD burner

Need ...

Motherboard
hard drive
processor
cooler
fan

Looking to spend around 1000 hopefully less, need to save money for my new open gun.

I still cant find a Thermalright IFX-14 so may have to choose a different one of them. But, here is motherboard, HDD, and processor.... puts your total at $849 currently, leaves plenty of room for a cooler of your choice, and maybe a case upgrade.

does it matter about the processor? (intel or AMD).....as long as it matches the motherboard right?

Intel or AMD now is kinda your choice, it seems AMD is not challenging Intel as much anymore (i think I might be stealing someones words here) but they are both decent, unless you plan on doing ridiculous things. I have an Dual -Core Intel laptop, and a x2 64 AMD desktop, both play tf2 fairly flawless, and will do it for you with the video card and the rest of the stuff you had.

Will be fun to meet ya :)

Im thinking of getting the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor

Is this good, is this an overkill??

It's not overkill.

you are going to need some heat sink and a fan.... since it doesn't come with one...

other than that, AMD is pretty much at same place with intel, so good choice
