MrBlah, You selected an IDE drive by accident. Choose a SATA drive.
For the PSU, get a modular one. I'd say corsair 520 or 620.
If you want to cut a bit off the build cost get a Gigabyte P35 board.
Isnt corsair just a re-branded seasonic?

See, now that's the kind of discussion I was hoping for
And MrBlah, if you really ARE looking to do another build, try this out. My wife went to the WPPI photography show in LV and bought a $1600.00 camera... I now need to 'discuss' with her the ramifications of my PC project..
What about a build that would be 'just right' for TF2, but keep a smaller budget in mind. No floor or ceiling, mind you, but trying to see about keeping it as low as reasonable...?

mmk... ill see what i can do, im guessing you dont need a 500GB HDD, ill keep that it 320 or 250, i can lower the motherboard a bit, i can drop the CPU to one that newegg actually has in stock, ill get on it.

oke, here ya go, dropped about $400 off the initial price, lemme know if you wanna go lower. I dont think you should as much lower and your gunna be gettin either crappy hardware or outdated hardware. I still think you should get a E6750 or something instead of the E4600 here, its another $40 or so

Re: Pick my new PC parts!!
Ok, so I think I am about ready to order. Thing is, that processor that you picked, Mr.Blah, is apparently teh insanely popular one and is always oos. I am looking for something else because I am going to just order everything, and who wants to sit around and wait for a processor??
It LOOKS to me like this one would work:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Retailr
Opinions, before I order?
Thxkbye,
SU
EDIT: Oh yeah, do I need to get anything else like thermal compound or anything like that, or will the processor come with some? Last time I built a PC, I didn't even need anything like that

Re: Pick my new PC parts!!
Now is when I come and play devil's advocate.
The new b3 stepping phenom 9850 gives comparable performance to the q6600, should be cheaper, and unlike the new intel penryns, it should actually be available starting next week (it was just launched thursday).

SU, that q6600 is a good choice... and clay make a valid point there. If you wish to wait i can do my research on it and then make some modifications to your build if you want to.

Okay. Am I right in assuming that all I will need to change is the mobo if I get a different (in particular a different manufacturer) processor?
My greatest fear here is that match up; I know that the drive &c. will most likely work with almost anything these days, but I definitely don't want to guess in matching up the processor/motherboard

Double post... but..
I think I am going to buy this locally if I can. There is a chain called PC Club that seems to carry all this stuff.
When I look these items up, the prices vary in both directions, so I figure with shipping considered from newegg, I will probably only spend a little more and have the stuff the day I go to get it.
If not, there is always Fry's Electronics, but that's like the first half of Dante's Inferno.
