Badlands - Map Fix

Post by Dog » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:26 am

First a brief history.
When TF2 came out last September, there was the hole that allowed people under the map in Gravelpit.
We edited the server map to include a death zone at the hole. So if any exploiter tried to get under the map, suicide would happen.

Badlands also has a hole allowing would-be exploiters to get under the map.
TV1, TV2, TV4 and TV7 are all running an edited version of the map.

The Corner of Death is back.

Let me know if people start complaining of "WTF....? I just died...."

Mehehe...I do love the Corner of Death! Sadly, I never got to see it in action on Gravel Pit (though I did wander onto it once while attacking C...only need to feel THAT sting, once!), but hopefully, I'll get to see someone on Badlands wondering why they keep suiciding :D

Good. A corner of death is much better than a team-under-the-map-with-sentries-that-can't-be-destroyed of death.

Well I found the Badlands Corner of Death today.

Well, to be precise, it kind of found me.

It's right outside of a spawn, and one that is usually contested with lots of movement around it, and it kills pretty quickly. Is there a way to only kill if you stand still on it? Or better yet, put the kill zone down where the players would land udner the map? I saw lots of people die from it today and none were Engineers trying to get under the map. I pinned a Soldier over there during a firefight and he dropped dead.

Well, I removed it.
There's just a big ugly barrel in its place.

I totally underestimated the ingenuity of some people. Some engies decided to grief by placing the TP exit at the point and get their own team killed.....go figure.

If people thought half as hard about playing the game as they do about ruining it...*sigh*

In any case, CoD 2.0 was awfully unforgiving, and I saw many, many players die who simply wandered over it or stopped there when being fired upon.

Well, the barrel does the same job but without the entertainment factor!

I now understand and rightfully fear the barrel. Ladeee and I shall forever remember the lessons it taught us. They have made us wiser.

Thank you, barrel.

Long live the D.R.B.T.

Torven, that thing is just amazing. Could I use as a signature please? I just chuckle every time I see it.

How does this work exactly? If you have an edited version of the map, wouldn't Steam not allow us to connect because the server version and the player version of badlands don't match up?
