Bro, I'm not trying to start a flame war with you, but ask a real map maker. They do feel that these abominations are a slap in the face.
How do I know ? I read a huge thred about them in the DoD community a while back and the vast majority of real map makers felt this way.
They are an insult to any of the map makers who put out quality work and they do bring in a selfish type of player who is not about teamplay, rather how many kills can they get. Hell, look at TTHREAZ screenie. That is how most people play these maps.
The reason I have so much respect for this community is that it promotes teamplay and teamwork while playing. It tends to have the most mature group of gamers that I have found in any community. I just don't feel that Orange map0s have a place in this community. ( Just my opinion and my opinion is no more important than that of anyone else here - hence the poll and this thread )

Once again, this was my point, and one I made earlier, but will repeat for clarity. I have not played any orange maps for TF2. Therefore, I have no way to judge them. My experience with them has been with CS:S, and there, I love them.
I'm also not trying to disrespect any map makers, but if I enjoy an orange map with a great layout more than a well-textured map that is uneven or otherwise not as fun, does that really make me a bad person?
So if we're talking about TF2 only here, then maybe I should voted I don't know (or was it don't care?), but I am just going from my CS:S experience here.

I played that way because of the map. It brought out the selfish monster in me.

TTHREAZ.. you showed the potential of the map based on the design. You played exactly the way it was meant to played. We ARE talking specifically about TF2. Yes, there is a discussion about this map for DOD, but that is another topic.
For TF2, orange maps are extremely poor for the style of play, give snipers exponentially more killing power and is a real drag for mapmakers.
Now, of course it does require some sort of skill to make orange maps, but compared to something like the details of quarry and castle, its a huge slap in the face. Sure, a great texture map could promote poor gameplay, but usually that isn't the case. Most, if not all mapmakers that take the time to put in the nice textures and doodads will also make sure they're map is viable for the style of play. Orange is just a bunch of bland orange blocks slapped together to make it resemble some kind of map.
Once again, I really think we should trash these maps from the ville servers as a gesture that we support real mapmaking skills.

I hate the sniper haven orange_x map with a passion. The new one I played recently wasn't as bad but I wouldn't cry if I never played it again.

As it was said before, a map does not have to be eye kandy.
it could just have severral textures and thats it.. wat matters is to promote team play.
when you play a m,ap u dun stop and say "Woooooow!" and then poof ur dead! U keep fighting.
As for Orange maps, I think they are intended for armature fun, and my suggestion is to take them off rotation.

But I just had the most awesome idea for a map. I call it Orange Field...It's like OrangeX, but with no walls, trenches or tower. I think if OrangeX was retextured and the walls walls were taller and more plentiful, you might have a decent map. Maybe turn that last cap point into a building of some kind. As it stands, the map feels less than half done.

Ville Awards
TV4 is our experimental server for customs and you'll often see people trying out new maps there. There are only two orange maps on there. It will be up to Silverone to make the changes there.
TV2 has one orange map and it has been removed from the voting. It will still be there if we want to use it for a fun night.

I can agree with taking them out of the rotation and only using them on a fun night. ( That is, if anyone can consider these things "fun"

It definitely looks like the vast majority of the Ville community agrees that these "maps" have no place on a classy set of servers like TheVille.
