Problem with Desktop

Post by YevGenie » Sun Dec 23, 2007 9:37 pm

Another problem...
I was trying to check out the NIC in my BIOS but unfortunately now my XP does not load up. It gets to the screen right after I get the option to go into BIOS, but it does not go any further than that. Can anyone tell me what to fix in BIOS so that I can get back into my computer?
Thx.

Could be any number of problems. Post the error message you get.

make sure you did not change your boot order. I have a defunct install of XPpro on one of my harddrives (from my computer that died in february 2007), a defunct install of 98SE (from that same computer) on a different harddrive, and finally my current install of XPpro on my newest harddrive. If my boot-order gets screwed up wierd stuff happens.

I do not get an error message, it stops loading, it just gets stuck, its still working b/c the little *I* cursor keeps spinning at the bottom, but it does not load. What should the boot order be? Mine goes First Boot: Removeable, Second Boot: Hard Disk, Third Boot: CD...is that right?

do you have multiple hard disks?

Regardless, I would put your windows cd in your cd drive and change cd drive to first boot priority. Once it loads up, repair your harddrive and see if that fixes it.

I do have multiple ones, I got it to boot up twice using the 2nd hard drive (i guess that is the one with the OS on it) but now it is not allowing me to go into BIOS or the Boot Menu is not even asking for the CD prompt. I believe it is not readind either of my keyboards in any of my keyboard slots...im really confused now

Hey, A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that helped me out. I figured it out in the end, all by myself! (I am totally so kidding right now, if it wasnt for John Doe, and German I would probably be throwing my PC out the window right now). It all came down to a broken network hub (I will get a router JD...*hangs head in shame*), and a very unfortunate romp through BIOS, but BIO(German that is) helped me get everything back and running smoothly. Thank you all so much for putting up with me today :)
