Either and 8800GT 512MB or 8800GTS 512MB

specifically the ones with 512MB of VRAM though, there is an 8800GT with 256MB of VRAM and 8800GTSs with 320MB and 640MB of VRAM.

And you could run a DVI cable to you TV.... and then use a DVI-HDMI converter... would be cheaper than buying an HDMI cable that probably isnt manufatured. :P

I usually prefer ATI - do they have any good ones out at the minute??

dvi - use that for the monitor - only use the svideo to watch movies or streaming video from the pc

is the 8800gts with 640 the best then?

First of, if you prefer ATI, you would be looking at a Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB of VRAM or a 3850 with 512MB of VRAM.

Second, the 8800GTS with 640MB of VRAM is not the best for a couple reasons: it runs on the PCIe 16x interface and not PCIe 2.0(basically PCIe 32x, mother has to support it to get full benefits of this) and also, it has slower clock speeds than the 8800GTS with 512MB of VRAM, and lastly, it runs on the G90 chipset, a 90nm chip. The 8800GTS with 512MB of VRAM runs on the G92 chipset, a 65nm chip so it runs cooler and can achieve high over all clockspeeds.

Please reference this post now.... about the latest 8800 video cards

I'm still waiting until after Christmas to give Buster a little extra oomph. The spare parts (as well as a few things here and there that Khonsu will be throwing in) will go collaberatively into making a new computer for a buddy of mine (who gave his old, crappy computer away to his GF. Lovely sentiment!) who's got nothing to go on these days but his Mac laptop.

Once Christmas is over I'm going to be going over the pieces that I want and will start to order them. I'm looking to get the following off of www.ncix.com

-New CPU
-New Video Card
-New RAM
-New Power Supply

And I'm going to just go buy a new, spiffy monitor from FS to save on shipping, insurance, and all-around convienence.

NCIX is very sale-based, so I'm expecting some kinda boxing day/week deals to pop up onto the site sometime soon, but if you want to look through it and see what looks good it'd be much appriciated.

Also... don't know if my current cooling is enough. 5R0 says it is, but I'm paranoid. I don't want Buster melting into a pile of junk ;_;

Usually when you have multiple components on one cooling pump, you want to hook them up in parallel instead of in series, then they all get nice cool inlet water. However you do want to make sure they are comparable in flow capacity, or the more restricted branches won't get much flow due to the pressure drop from the big one. Easy way to check this is hook them all up and run the outlets into different cups - it's obvious where the flow is going that way. Of course if the total flow is huge compared to the heat load it doesn't matter cuz the water won't heat up much. Do those PC systems have thermocouples to monitor the water temperature?

I recently designed a multibranch water cooling system for a 50kW induction heater and it hasn't melted down yet, so maybe i'm not talkin out my azz :)

and one thing i did notice, as i will always do a comparison, NCIX's top sale item right now, the Core 2 Quad, is of course on the top left of all the items they promote on their main page... its $20 more than newegg.com :P figured i would let ya know. And also, AMDs quad-core, the Phenom, its $56 less at newegg.com :) seeeeeeeeeeee....

newegg does not ship to us nucks.

Although what you can do is shop at NCIX and price match to direct canada's low prices so you get NCIX's service and support, with super cheap prices!

At the bottom of your NCIX cart, just click "Start price match"

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?s ... ture=INTEL

Compared to Newegg's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115017

and NCIX's http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku= ... ture=Intel

I think I'm going to go with this video card, even if it doesn't go on sale:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? ... chnologies

My current card is a BFG, and when it broke down they gave me fantastic, quick customer service (not to mention a lifetime warrenty without signing up or anything) so I'm more than happy to support em.

I think I want this power supply?
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? ... re=CORSAIR

Um... other than that I dunno. Still want to know about cooling, but since it's likely I'll be doing this myself (OH JEEZE!) I don't really want anything that would be easy to mess up on the install.
