Re: Anime Recomendations From an Old School Otaku
I don't really watch anime anymore, but I started watching Samurai Champloo a couple weeks ago because I found Space Dandy to be such a colossal disappointment.
It's kept Dandy from tainting Cowboy Bebop for me.
Also, subtitled is the clear preference, though I'm not sure if the subtitle translations are really all that much better than the dubs as much as it's just better to hear the voice acting properly.

I feel like you should enjoy Trigun if you like Cowboy Bepop and Samurai Champloo.

I remember trying to watch it a long, long time ago and disliking it. I am sure it's on a streaming service so I'll give it a try when I finish up Champloo.

Nice to see this thread is still alive. Anyone else watch Kill La Kill, Tokyo Ravens, or Noragami last season? If not those were all good shows and i recommend them.

My 3 favorite shows right now are Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, and Steins;Gate. Robotics;Notes, Beyond the Boundary, and Sunday Without God are great. Valvrave the Liberator and Arpeggio of Blue Steel are surprisingly good. Danganronpa and Psycho-Pass are excellent.

Kill la Kill seems to have been THE anime of the last season, yet I found it incredibly average.
Once you got past the "It's just like FLCL and Gurren Lagann!" it wasn't very good.

Re: Anime Recomendations From an Old School Otaku
I just couldn't resist after pouring over the last 36 pages- had to share my favorites
Please feel free to make any recommendations based on said list because having two little ones has derailed my Otaku something fierce.
Having said that.. I am laughing because my list is really all over the map ;P I love atmospheric, dark, intense anime most of all.
Battle Angel Alita
Fushigi Yuugi
Ayashi no Ceres
Hellsing
Read or Die
Onegai Teacher
Sai Kano
GTO
Now and Then Here and There
Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne
Lain
Noire
His and Her Circumstances
Chobits
Fruits Basket
Golden Boy
Rurouni Kenshin
Bleach
Flame of Recca
Anything Miyazaki.. favorites would be Howl's Moving Castle (better than comfort food) and Princess Mononoke

If you have a PS3 or Nintendo DS you should check out Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (JRPG). Studio Ghibli did the animation and it's fantastic.

Re: Anime Recomendations From an Old School Otaku
Omg...why am I just now discovering this thread.
Psycho-pass was fantastic! I hear there's a second season coming?
I've been trying to get into Steins, but I just couldn't get into it after the first 3 episodes. Does it change at all after that? Or is what I've seen sort of the standard the rest of the way? I'm used to slow-ish starts (Gurren Lagann and Attack on Titan come to mind), but my patience runs a bit thin these days.
I finished Baccano! over the summer and loved it. I highly recommend it, particularly to anybody who enjoyed Cowboy Bebop. There are a ton of characters, but you get used to it after the first few episodes.
