Well..

Get the 8600GTS if you want DX10.

Get a 7900GS if you want to have the better performance in DX9 games because the 7900GS will destroy the 8600GTS in a DX9 environment.

Also, Sorry replica if I was coming across rude or anything, I was just trying to help you out with what I think would be a much better choice. But it's your money, spend it wisely :)

I could not agree more with Ben than that!!!

Im not a big fan too of SLI/Crossfire!!!

I think, like he said, that it is better to buy a better video card instead of 2 mid-end cards in SLI/Crossfire!!!

What do you have to know is that 2 cards in SLI will NOT give you twice the performance of a single one!!!

In the better case, about 1.5 time!!!!

That is why it is better a single high end card!!!

About the 8600GTS, you have to know that the 8600 series are the low end DX10 card. They have been build to have an affordable DX10 card and their performance are not that good!!!

In my idea, i think youll be better with a better DX9 card than with the low end DX10 8600 series!!!

You can look for a crossfire MB, buy a X1950XT (or X1950pro) and add later another X1950XT if you want and youll still have the option. like you said, to add a second one later. I think that is what i would do i I was you, but I'm not... :D

If youre going to buy an nvidia 8xxx series, dont bother with anything less than the 8600gts, which may put it out of your price range rep. Otherwise get a high-end 7xxx series. More bang for your buck.

edit: if you can afford to save up more money, get a 8800gts instead. Itll be worth it.

Good choice.

I think both Nvidia and ATI dropped the ball with the mid-range cards this cycle in terms of price/performance, although it might be partly due to the DX10 transition.

Congrat for your new buy!!!

You will have fun with this card!!!

Great performance, about the same that you would have if you bought the x1950xt, but at a lesser price!!!

Nice find.

In fact, my friend ask me to build him a computer for 1200$ total... With that rebate on the 7950gt, i will seriously think about putting this card in his comp!!!

Thx!

Grats on your new card. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Those are your best bets. Assuming you already have purchased an AM2 socket motherboard.

Nice CPU. I wish I had spent a little more and gotten one of those myself.
