need help.

Post by v.o.c » Mon Sep 03, 2007 12:43 pm

i know its a while away yet, but next summer im going to be best man at my friends wedding. this is not the problem, the problem is that i have to make a speech and i suck at anything that involves an entire room of strangers looking at me. j/k i love the fact that ill be center of attention for a few mins.
but anyway i really have no idea where to start with a wedding speech, i have always been pretending to be intressted at all the weddings ive been to. so if anyone as some tips or funny little jokes that go down well at weddings, they will be appreciated.

the way i see it, a wedding speech usually start with how you and the groom met and maybe something funny the two of you went through together and then maybe how the groom changed for the better when he met the bride, blah blah blah...etc...to be honest i don't even remember what was said at our wedding...the whole day just felt like one big blur...i know we cut the cake, yet I don't remember it :D
scary actually...but i was under a lot of stress, a lot of things happening at the time...

ok, i'm not sure the above is gonna be of any help, but i tried

good luck
:D

edit...wait a minute...if i remember correctly our best man had his speech written on a roll of toilet paper... he is/was a good friend...they just became parents of a healthy, big, baby boy (4.2kg - first child, i kid you not)

Keep it short and sweet, everyone will appreciate it. I agree with kate, i dont remember what the best man at our wedding said, hell with my age, I don't remember my best man.

You should avoid the following topics:

1) Anything that happened at the bachelor party. As a matter of fact, don't mention it at all.

2) Anything concerning his ex-spouse, ex-girlfriend, and/or ex-concubine.

3) If an anecdote or story begins with "We were so drunk!"... it's probably a bad idea.

4) Any anecdote or story regarding his or her parents.

5) This is just my opinion: Anything overly sentimental.

As Ethix said, make it short and sweet. Like a commando raid, get it done and get out!

It's also probably a good idea to be careful of how much alcohol you consume prior to the speech. Afterwards... :drinking: :drink1: :booze:

I was the best man at my brother's wedding. I talked about the first time I remember seeing them together. Then I talked about how she made me bro a better man, etc etc etc. Same BS you see in all the movies blah blah blah.

Keep it short is the best word of advice. Try to be meaningful and humurous at the same time. If all else fails, you can buy a speech!
