It makes me want to pick up the original series except it costs around $80 now. I guess I'll have to settle on the new OVA's.
Evangelion is overrated. The new movies are better, but the original is pretty poor. They story is a cliched mess that makes no sense and the ending is absolutely horrible.

Sounds like 75% of the anime I watch.

Watch better translations? Most of it makes sense if you get good translations.

Sorry, I wasn't talking about translation work. I have watched too many horrible anime adaptions of manga.
And majority of them are filled with cliches and horrible non-ending, endings.

Nowadays my standards are a little higher and I try to stay away from those types of anime.

Well thanks to Nking and his Steam sale funny, I have gotten into "Attack on Titan." 15 out of 25 of it has been aired, but it is quite good so far. Now the fun weekly waiting happens for episodes to air in Japan....
WARPATH Cup '12- [WARPATH] We are running past all the heavies
The Ville Cup '12- (DYD) Dirty Dan's Double D's
Dust Bowl loves Warpath '13- (CD-i) Chokepoints and Demomen- international (Champions!)
The Ville Cup '13- [T^5] Tuber's Truly Terrifying Tator Tots
The Ville Cup '14- GCI_ Guild of Calamitous Intent

So far this summer, I've watched:
Fullmetal Alchemist (loved)
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (even better than original)
Soul Eater (probably my favorite anime)
Black Butler I & II (really great show with some good twists)
Elfen Lied (I did not like this show at all)
Fairy Tail (Only episode 1-48; fantastic show. wish the english dub was finished)
Code Geass (Almost finished, on episode 18 of R2; really awesome and tragic show)

I'm not really into anime, but there's one that I really enjoyed (and still have yet to finish) called Monster. It pretty much has no action in it, but from what I saw it was fantastic.

Definitely one of the strangest anime series I've ever watched. It gets pretty slow and depressing in places but it is so well developed. The first episode hits you square in the heart and makes you think, then the whole series goes off the deep end. I wouldn't rate is as one of my favorites but it has an awful lot of impact.

Since this is the first time I've chimed in here, everyone should watch Berserk.

Nope! Everyone should READ Berserk.

Watch the Japanese. The English voice acting for Fairy Tail is terrible.

Geass is easily at the top of my list of shows that I hate that everyone loves. I just find the characters and their motivations idiotic. I can deal with characters who are jerks. The Geass characters are just...dumb.

I'm going to have to disagree. It has a lot of great voice actors. Besides, I really don't like Japanese voice actors. They mostly all sound the same and over act.

To each his own, but saying all Japanese voice actors sound the same and overact is pretty insulting.

There are good English voice actors out there, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill come to mind. Most of the voice actors worth anything aren't dubbing Anime. The only company that respects the original source work is Disney, and that's only cause they only work with Ghibli films. Even then, they get it wrong. The dub of Arriety was pretty poor compared to the original, where as Howl's Moving Castle is arguably better in English than Japanese.

About the only Anime in the US worth watching dubbed is Bebop, and that's because Steve Blum is Spike. Most other dubs are just terrible cash grabs by companies like Funimation and use the lowest cost VA talent they can find. Johnny Young Bosh can rot in a fire for all I care. Worst voice actor ever to grace a dub. Zero talent what so ever and only has one voice, his own.

Watching any foreign media should be done in the original language. That is how the creators intended for it to be seen. What you see as overacting is how the creators of the show wanted the characters to sound.

I totally agree with Frosty on this. I basically can't watch dubbed anything. Better subbed than dubbed!

Watching it in the original language also helps you learn a thing or two (new words/phrases and cultural differences).

I understand that but I guess I haven't really seen enough anime in Japanese to judge but from what I've seen, I didn't care much for it. I'm still pretty new to watching anime and the shows that I listed above are pretty much the only anime I've watched. I watched them all in English because I'm not really a fan of Japanese voice actors (based on what I've seen) and I can't read subtitles and pay attention to whats happening. In my opinion, the voice acting for all those shows (except Elfen Lied) had solid voice acting.
