I'm not altogether sure I'd call Antec a "good" brand. I've had four antec PSU's fail on me.

Taco, IF you decide to modify your current case I would highly recommend removing all components that are inside. (And I mean EVERYTHING!!! Power supply, motherboard/cpu, optical and/or hard drives, etc..) And clean it thoroughly before putting anything back in there. The metal shavings can short out (and it's a BAD short, unlike the hilarious movie "Short-Circuit") any component inside.

Secondly, if you decide to get a new case you might have to invest in a new PSU as well. Chances are the one you have now won't fit in a new case properly.

I just got a thermaltake case and love it under load i'm running at 38-40C air cooled thats 1 140mm intake and 1 140mm outtake fan which you can't even here because they are barely running :). I have been using Ultras Modular style PSU's as you can use the cables you need and leave the rest out and add them as you need them :). So far haven't had any issue's on any of my systems and we have 6 running 24/7 right now. My living room looks like a internet cafe...lol

I think he meant me. Most powersupplies will list on them somewhere how many watts they have available at each voltage range. Look for 12 volts, which is what video cards use. My bet is that its a rather small number, which will force you to make a choice. Either keep your current psu and get a card that doesnt require too much power, or get a new psu to go with your new card.

ps: I'm Clay, not beeron.

pps: video cards, disk drives and case fans all run off the 12 volt rail iirc.

All PSU's are hit or miss, depending on the model, in my opinion.

Ya I have bought many of PSU and all top name brands and had my share of DOA's. It's electronics and any static electricity will zap them. Sometimes is how the retailer/seller packages them or where they are located. If there warehouse is in a place that has lots of electric activity AKA lightning and such I'm sure they would have there fare share of bad parts. I know Antec has good quality parts and some awesome cases for airflow and keeping things cool.

I think you should upgrade the PSU still that is only 1 rail @ 24 volts having 2-3 or even 4 rails @ 24 amps will last you a lifetime...lol or wait well we would like to thik so. Anyways With what you have listed you are pushing it with only 24 amps on a single rail. Even a +12 18a duel rail will do you better as it has 36 amps.

Look at the specs of the PSU and make sure there is atleast 2 +12 rails of 18amps or higher. Or if going with a single +12 rail it's a high end PSU that has 45-60 amps on the rail  .
This one has 2 19 amp rails nice PSU

Anywho there's alot more out there thats just a example.

You need a better PSU. My 650 watt tripower (3 different 12-volt rails) doesnt have enough power to spare for me to SLI my 8800 GTS 640, should I ever get a 2nd one. I'd have to buy an auxillary psu for that...

But taco, I must ask. Why, if you recently bought a computer, are you listing parts for an entire new one?

Thats a pretty solid list, although I recommend you to change a few things on it.

Although I have nothing against patriot memory, you can get a more widely used ram, and better customer support for cheaper from Corsair.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145034

The Intel motherboard should work fine, but you could get an ASUS motherboard of higher quality for just a bit more.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131180

ALSO!!! That PSU you chose is a HUNK OF CRAP! Do NOT get that PSU! The PSU is the most important piece of hardware in your system and is always overlooked! You can't skimp out on the quality of the most important component in your system, this is why I recommend a quality PSU from Corsair or Antec.

Other than that, looking good, Good luck!

As Gen. Ben said get at the very least a 600W supply if you are going to try an 8800.

I got an 800W monolithic (fancy name for one big rail) supply. I like it.
