When things like that happen in either normal MC or in Tekkit, the thing that usually works best for me seems to be completely exiting the program, waiting a minute, then re-launching and trying again. Maybe that's just because it gives it enough time to get over whatever hiccup is there, but it seems to work for me.

So with no-one playing on Tekkit....is there any point in keeping it?

I wasn't aware nobody's playing on it. I certainly consider myself an active Tekkit player, and I never wanted for company. Been a gap while xmas travel and such goes on, perhaps?

I'd say yes, there is a point in keeping it. The new MC server is already messed up with op hacks as far as I'm concerned, so that's certainly not a good alternative.

The whole melon farm that popped up at the beginning was supplied via op command, thus eliminating the most crucial and interesting part of survival, and fueling a quick-start for the server by eliminating the pressure and resource needs the mode is meant to have. Even in Tekkit, with our ability to build replicators, automated systems, and develop things like flight, it was several days before we actually had a reasonable number of people with self-sustaining food production. It is admirable to want to build things for the public good, but I don't consider it acceptable to compromise the integrity of the game for it.

This is a street we've gone down before. Remember that time when around 50% of the players quit the server en masse because of the giving of creative mode to those who didn't want to have to work for anything? This is functionally the same - repeat all arguments from that here again, and count me out again, til we have a legitimate normal map. I admit that I wouldn't have been there super often anyway, given that I'm a Tekkiter, but now it's just out of the question.

Hmm, I did not see a melon farm near spawn on the TV5 map if that is what you mean, but it could have been removed. Yeah I do not agree with creative being used on a Vanilla survival server. That is why I left TV10, it was pointless at that point. And that whole thing about "No one wants to make rails or public buildings without it" was complete and utter garbage, calc built the calc rail on the last server and I am building the nether hub on this new TV5 server. All creative did was steal projects from people who actually wanted to build them legit. I will keep my eyes open for Creative being used, it would be sad to have to abandon my project on the new TV5 if I find out it has been used. I already invested a large amount of time on that server. I really hope creative is no longer being used at all. If so I will have to find another server to go play on. Which I do not want to do.

The melon farm has since been removed, the food is replaced with carrots and taters from a nearby village.

I hope that was all of creative that was used, I can live with this even though it really isn't hard to get started and I do not know why we feel like we should cheat at theville.
It's making me start to question the trees at spawn, the enchanting table and everything. I don't know what is legit now... It was a quick enchanting table to go up.

EDIT 2: spoke to Flash, he said it was just the little farm which is now replaced and spawn was also lvld with creative. As long as that is where it stops, I am cool with that. Still dont know why we have to cheat though. Never will make sense to me.

The farm I made was legit but grain was slow and people were coming so I dumped in melons so there was something for them to explore with without dieing of starvation. Once Alizee joined he pointed out my error so I quickly nuked the melons since I never found legit seeds in a chest and planted carrots and taters from the village instead.

Thats the extent of creative use and I apologize if people get upset for me trying to provide a little support for players coming onto the new fresh server.

As for a spawn town I will leave that for others to decide, I busted my hump yesterday trying to find enough cane to make paper and books to build a full enchanting table at spawn. I stole books from villlages and harvested cane in a desert and planted some by the farm too. I will not do anything else unless there is a community request I guess. I always found TV5 to be enjoyable when faces joined and could get properly equipped to go out into the world to claim their piece of the server for their needs, if some feel thats unnecessary or makes things too easy Im sorry to hear that.

I blame Gator :P

I still love ya JD, yeah from what I hear it was not bad at all. And has since then been fixed, spawn town itself I am unsure of who wants to plan that at this point, I am guessing it will just be tons of us like last time and slowly expanding out.

Side note: Nether Hub is ready to connect to. Please only connect to the lower level. Thanks for all the donations everyone :)

I too added to the small farm, legitimately luring pigs with carrots and cows with wheat from the small farm.
The chickens were all over that area so getting more eggs and spawning more chickens wasn't a problem.

However, I respect the wishes of the community and have since removed all the fences and destroyed the chicken house.
The animals (which were not spawned with eggs) have since roamed free again.

None of us have a problem with people building stuff at spawn, helping each other out, creating a town, or any of that. The only point of contention is the use of op commands to create such things, instead of legitimately acquiring them. As has been repeatedly demonstrated, Villuns are very resourceful, and always willing to help. There's no need to op in something to give people a leg up - it's part of the game to go and get it (whatever "it" may be), and it's fun to do it legitimately as a community.

It wasn't my intention to turn a post about Tekkit in to a drama bout Vanilla, nor to hurt any feelings. If it helps ensure creative mode and op commands are never again used on our Vanilla server outside of a DD though, I'll say my apologies and call it a fair trade.
