Wall Breaker - ???
Tank - probably Shuckle or Steelix

Advice?
Both Slaking and Shuckle are bad choices IMO, Slaking can only move every other round while Shuckle can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag (the defense is just a gimmick). Theoretically you can do some serious damage with Power Trick? (whatever move swaps your attack and defense values), but considering Shuckle's now awful defense and low speed, you're probably not getting away with that.

I've yet to pick up 5th gen so I don't know how 5th move sets compare to 4th, but I was big on 4th gen. My setup was pretty cool back in the day. I had about 18 mons trained to some degree, but I believe my main party was something like this:

Weavile on point
Crobat as somewhat of a gimmick (level 100 shiny, has to be in the team somewhere), despite this serves as a moderate flying physical, with U-turn for bad matchups.
Porygon-Z with Choice Scarf and Adaptability; Tri-Attack death is very likely. If resistant to normal, he also had Psychic and Thunderbolt
Gallade serving a physical attacker with a variety of moves to cover multiple weaknesses. Mostly modeled after the one used by D/P/P's Elite Four member.
Roserade for special attack, Giga-Drain with Big Root for enhanced healing
Wild card

Other mons I had built:
Empoleon
Flareon
Feralligator
Lucario
Dragonite
Infernape
Rapidash
Leafeon
Furret

I never got into metagame though, so a lot of them don't have good PvP movesets. Some of them were only leveled for fun rather than serious battle (such as Furret, who was simply leveled in Soul Silver in honor of my original copy of Silver where I had a Furret who was capable of sweeping Red's team with Headbutt alone).

I'm sure I have more, that's just the group in my Soul Silver copy, i've got four of the five 4th gen titles and moved mons around frequently. As a result, I also have four Summer 2011 Jirachis and two G/S Anniversary Mews.

I beat White 2 with:
Crustle (As lead, only there for stealth rock. Had sturdy to make sure it gets to use it. Last minute addition to the team, glad i had it.)
Skarmory
Magnezone
Azumarill (Crappy water, had to overlevel it for it to do anything, left me wishing I had chosen the water starter)
Emboar (Didn't even use him once in the Elite 4, what a disappointing starter)
Also had a Golurk in my team for the Elite 4, but didn't use it in any battle anywhere. It was just there to fill a team slot.

Skarmory and Magnezone did most/all of the work. I wanted to complete the game with what I caught in it. After the Elite 4 though, I ditched the whole party and traded over my team from White 1. Oh, how I have missed them. Just my EV trained Jellicent, 10 levels lower than my White 2 party, outperforms the lot of them... And Jellicent isn't even the star of the party.

Quick question, does Gen 5 address any of the "regional" evolutions? I'm talking stuff like Magnetzone and Probopass in Mt. Coronet or those Eevee rocks in Eternia Forest and Rt. 217. Are there means to get these without linking or do you have to link a gen 4 game to get them?

There's a Moss Rock in Pinwheel Forest and Ice Rock in Twist Mountain for evolving Leafeon and Glaceon. You can evolve Magnezone/Probopass in Chargestone cave. So yes, there are means to do so in Unova.

I'm 6 badges in now and have added Volcarona to my team somewhere along the line, but I'll be in the same boat as Marf by transferring over my main team when I finish the Elite Four. A lot of my previous team is geared towards Gen 4 and new options are available so I'll need to rethink my main team. Regardless I'll be running my favorite pokemon Weavile.
Kagsacar wrote:Alright how about switching Slaking with Rampardos?
Ramparados has a really high attack stat (165 base) and a lot of moves at its disposal, but its speed and defenses leave something to be desired. Something you'll need to keep in mind if you choose to use it.

Well i still need a new DS the one i have is broken, plus i want to upgrade anyway.
How does one break a DS? They're practically indestructible.
I once dropped my black DS off of my sidetable somehow, and it fell in the most perfect way on one of its corners and broke the hinge with the power lights on them. So my top screen for about a month was flimsy and I had to retape the hinge on multiple times.
This was until a friend and one of our gym leaders at the Pokemon TCG league I used to go to offered to replace my whole shell for free since he had a bunch of leftover parts from changing shells on other DS's, as long as the parts I chose weren't from Pikachu edition shells (yellow buttons or the top shell with the face on it)
As I wasn't picky, and let him have at it, my black DS now has a white bottom, blue top and white buttons. a unique piece to see, but I don't think I'll ever get rid of this DS even when it breaks since this friend passed away a year ago in a work accident and its like a memento to me :')

That is a story about how one breaks a DS. An aesthetic break on the shell, but a break all the same.

Also, now I feel like a dumb pants because of how people assemble their teams. I just choose ones I like or have sentimental attachment to. My team is currently a Servine, Marill, Pidove, and Flaafy.

I think Carpe's definition of broken is that it will not turn on anymore. My DS top screen doesn't lock in place anymore when I open it, but it still works fine. Hell my SNES still works like it was brand new. Nintendo makes their products out of Nintendium which makes them impossible to break by accident. Some products can even survive wars

Everyone builds teams based on something, no need to be ashamed of it. I have a "competitive team", battle subway team, and a few other random teams for gimmicks and shenanigans. I have about 30 or so Cleffas in a box ready to be turned into Team Metronome when I can get around to it.

Ir serves to mention that i can only use gen four down, so please do not recommend anything from gen 5. Also i do not want to use any lengendaries.

I was also thinking Drapion for toxic spikes, and boost his defensive stat, ensureing that he gets it off at least once, preferably twice for that badly poisoned.

I like Rampardos, i could probably EV his speed to be respectable, and i do not see a real need for defense, hopefully i will fainting my enemies pokemon before they can get a hit.

I like Gengar's high Spc Atk stat so i will defiantly use him for blasting opponents, primary focusing on boosting Spc Atk, and maybe a bit of Speed.

I still need another mixed attacker

I still need a wall breaker, although i hear Lucario is a good option.

And i still need a tank, i still like the idea of Shuckle, jsut to absorb damage, and buy time, but i would like to have some offensive power to back him up, so he is out.

Don't feel bad, I kind of do the same. I have my favorites and, competitively superior or not, I like having them. That's why I live having a Hypno instead of an arguably superior Alakazam and a Gyarados despite his double Thunder weakness. I use them because I like them. That said, I do even things out with a few on my team who I put some careful thought into their growth.

That said, this is the team I beat SoulSilver with:

My White 2 team as of defeating the Elite Four:

- Lucario
- Arcanine
- Sawsbuck
- Flygon
- Eelektross
- Starmie

Right now I'm trying to build a good team to take on the Battle Subway/World Tournament. Caught a bunch of female Scraggy and Frillish (plus some Staryu) for this.
"So what have you been up to, man? Haven't seen you in so long!"
"Ah, you know how it is. Doin' a lot of side projects, some consulting, maybe a little freelance... Those are words that people say when they haven't actually been doing anything, right?"

This is the sole reason why I field a shiny Crobat in all of my gen 4 teams. It's the first and only shiny I've ever encountered (found it in Mt. Moon in Fire Red). I missed giving it Hypnosis so it's pretty weak competitive wise. Still, it gets some interesting looks when I throw it out.

Too true. I'm not really a competitive player by any means, but I'm fairly lax when it comes to worrying about stats in my pokemon. It's more like "Hey, I need a water type-OH THERES AN AZURILL. Welcome to my team. I'm going to train you well." kind of thing. Although, after I make my first run through the Elite Four, I will probably be looking to form other teams for competitive play, or the Battle Subway. After I had a few conversations about EV training back in my Pokemon TCG League days, I've pondered the thought of training some by that method again for kicks.

The only shinies i have caught were a shiny Gloom and Wingull in Sapphire, in which the gloom I evolved into a Bellossom. Then my first DS got stolen with my sapphire cartridge inside, so it was a bummer to lose my shinies and all my good pokemon i wanted to transfer to Diamond when it came out, and to later gens when those games came out. (It was stolen about a month before D/P came out)

Its base speed is something like 45 so it's going to be slower than a lot of Pokemon even with a favorable nature and speed EVs. Just as a frame of reference, the fastest Pokemon in the game has a base speed of 180 (Deoxys-Speed), and the faster non legendary pokemon will be in the 110-130 range. That's not to say that Rampardos is bad, you just need to be aware of what it is capable of and what its limits are just like any other Pokemon.
