What was your best summer ever and why?
My best summer ever was when I was about 13 years old. I didn't go on the usual family road trip in a tin can across country. I got to stay home and get into loads of trouble with my friends. One day it rained real hard and my friends I washed our hair in the rain, after we had an enormous mud fight, that is.

Re: What was your best summer ever and why?
When I was eleven, I suddenly found out I had distant French relatives living in the south west of France. They invited me to go stay with them for a couple of months during the summer. So my parents stuck me on a plane to Biarritz, and met them all for the first time and suddenly discovered that part of the deal was that I was only allowed to speak French. So some quick learning was required!
After that, I never spent a teenage summer in Northern Ireland. Every summer was spent surfing on the Atlantic, snorkelling around the reefs and having an idyllic childhood away from home and avoided all the turmoil in Northern Ireland!
In my last year there (18), I got a job making ice cream in a restaurant. Got up at 5am. Worked until noon and then spent the rest of the day on the beach! I became so native, that holiday makers thought I was French!
Another perfect summer was in 1995. Northern Ireland usually has wet summers. 1995 was different when it was sunny throughout July and August! So I bought myself a wet suit and a body board and surfed the Atlantic again. Preacherman bought a tube and the pair of us spent days in the water messing in the waves.
So I love summer! Right up there with Spring, Autumn and Winter!

From memory they were monstorous waves, and i didn't have a wetsuit - If I thought my kids were that stupid and dangerous I would go mental

Summer of '89. My parents took my brother, grandmother and I on a 3 week roadtrip across the US. We saw the majority of the country and went camping, it was a blast.
This summer is ranking up there as a top one also

Hmm,
I think I can do better than my last memory. I think one of my best summers was when my parents took us all up and down the eastern coast of my stomping grounds (Florida) one summer and I learned to surf. I also remember fondly finding sand dollars under my feet in Bradenton, Florida on that trip.

Probably the summer of 1979 when I was about 10 or so. I lived in the Maple Valley area of Washington near a bunch of woods and lakes. I ran rampant with my pellet gun playing war with my dorky maties. One time we followed some overgrown train tracks and found were a wwII internment camp was. An old man chased us out with a shotgun, but we'd still sneak in.
There was an old water tower that was still full o' water that we'd throw rocks at. It made a really weird sound that would alert the old man and yet chase us away.
Then the Green River murders started, and kids were afraid of going out in the woods. It was fun while it lasted.
After I grew up more summer no longer became fun since I had to work when not in school. Now summer makes me mad because I hate to work in the hot sun.

I'd have to say DITTO to that one. I was in southern Italy for 6 weeks with school. We did lots of touring, met a lot of great new friends, and I learned to speak the language a lot better than I had been able to before. Although I'm not 100% fluent, considering I was with Americans the whole time, I speak it pretty well. Although I got my tonsils removed last week, and I'll be in pain for probably another week at least, I'll be going to Florida for three weeks which I cannot wait to do!

I have to say that my fondest memories of summer come from our trips to Cape Cod every year withthe family. Just sat on the beach, dug for clams, drank, relaxed and enjoyed the peacefulness.
Also enjoy waterskiing every weekend.
next year Italy and Cancun!!

Next summer my wife and I are planning a cross-country Road trip. We're thinking of going west, not as far as California, but Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, maybe New Mexico if there's time.
For our 10th Anniversary, I'm planning on going to Europe, but shhh, so far this is a secret plan from which the wife isn't aware of

So far this is the best summer...
reasons why?
Went to Spain... partied in madrid for 2 days... met some cool girls and partied with them... took a train to Pamplona, stayed up all night partying until the bull run.... Ran with the bulls ... yes thats right... i did it! Hated life at the trainstation in pamplona waiting for my train back to madrid... with still no sleep... met a hot asian girl.... helped her out because she couldnt speak spanish.... then... cancelled all our plans in spain.. and went to Cannes France together.... awesome 3 days with her...
Went back to madrid... partied some more... flew to Amsterdam.... met some cool people and drank all night.. and flew back home the next day...
and when i got home... the party just never stopped...

My best summer was summer of '01, when my youngest daughter was born. I was happily married, liked my job, gamed at the ville, and had a brand new perfect little baby girl (who just turned 6 last week!
) That will always go down as the happiest time in my life, with the exception of becoming an admin here
