DOTA 2 Gameplay Discussion Thread

What are some good opening item(s)? Does it depend on which hero you choose?

I've been sticking with the glass bottle so far.

It depends completely on what hero you have.
Usually I will see whatever hero type I have (agility, strength, or intelligence) and buy a set of tangos and either a wraith band, bracer, or null talisman accordingly.

Often times some components for bracers are nice pickups, but less frequently for null talisman, and rarely wraith bands. The reason being that strength is just so more efficient early game, and these are items youll only make early. nulls are niice for supporting heroes with high mama costs, but wraith bands are almost never worth it unless youre morphing (because wraiths are cheaper than bracers and morph can convert agi to str).

Assuming youre still playing lion or cm mateo, my recommendation for starting items are:
Courier, 2 tangos, 2 mana pots, 2 ironwood branches.one of the best items you can make on support are magic wands, most games.

Warpath Cup'11: Hades Babies, Villympics'11: Bold and the Beautiful, TVC'11: Conballers
Warpath Cup'12: FAIL Villympics`12: ACME

Yeah I have to agree I lied about the null talismans. Intel heroes are so squishy so I usually get bracer and str boots

Another quick question...some of the heroes I have been using have "scepter upgrade-able" in one of their abilities (usually the furthest one on the right that you cant perk until level 6). Which item(s) are they referring to? The closest one I see is the scepterey looking item costing around 900.

That's good, the vast majority of int can use a bracer or two. Str treads infrequently, often phase or arcane will be btter on the bulk of int, but a few can use treads decently. Treads also have the benefit of swapping between str and occasionally int to get a small mana pool boost. Additionally if you have a bottlle and treads you can switch to agi before drinking then switch back to str or int and youll game more than if you drank in other versions.

Also really take a look at magic wands, there super good or decent depending on enemy composition.

If the game is exactly like DOTA, it's a high end craftable item that requires items from the Secret Shop. If it's not, then well. I have no idea.

Aghanims scepter, costs 4200. Additionally if you just type scepter into the buy search shop that should get you to it. Its not worthwhile most games on quite a few that can get it, and amazingly great on others.

Had what had to be the most fun game I've played so far in DotA 2. The entire first half of the game was myself, clockwork, and weaver holding off the bloodseeker, pudge, maiden and slardar on the top half of the map, while or razor and tide sat bot against drow.

It was a bit rocky early trying to fend off the pudge cm roam but by the time we finally got together our tide had blink and razor was fairly farmed, although cowardly. A pretty absurd amount of kills occurred in this game.
