So has anyone else else played Homefront?

Basically, Korea invades the United States using sneaky tactics, and you help fight back as part of the resistance.

It is very Red Dawn-esque.

I liked the single player campaign.

I am not sure whether I should buy this game or not. The trailers have almost no actual first person game play footage. I am waiting on a review.

I bought it. Played it. Hated it. One of the worst fps games Ive played in a long time. The game play is archaic and the game looks pretty bad. Worst of all it suffers from some major design flaws that make it almost unplayable. You can only carry 4 mags for any weapon and its almost impossible to pick up ammo because it will only allow you to pick up ammo from the exact same weapon type. even though every weapon I have found so far is the same caliber. The enemy's carry like 7 different 5.56 assault rifles to compound this. You constantly have to walk around mid combat looking down and physically picking up new assault rifles while you are still in a fire fight. I found a rifle I actually liked but I could only use it for a minute of game play because I was out and couldn't pick up ammo from the enemy's weapons. I highly recommend avoiding this game. Pick up crysis 2 next week if you need a new shooter. I am going back to............. (sigh) dragon age 2 until then.

It is very Red Dawn-esque.

The game is written by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote/directed Red Dawn.

I'm very intrigued by the concept of the game and like what I've read of the plot/setting. If they had released a Mac version I would have really thought about ordering it but that combined with Crimson's review means I'll probably end up skipping it.

Looking forward to what others think of the game.

How far did you get in the game?

I almost never ran out of ammo after act 1. In act 1 I was confused as hell as to the ammo system. There are actually achievements in act 1 for not using the rifles, as you're supposed to have a hard time getting ammo in the first act. The ammo situation got better in act 2 and beyond.

Aim for the noggin, dude. 1 shot, 1 kill makes your ammo last longer. Also, you can carry two different weapon types with two sets of ammo.

Its hard to use the old 1 shot 1 kill mentality when the game do sent include an $%#% fire selector witch is unfortunately all to common in video games. As for carrying 2 weapons I get that but even then that doesn't fix the fact that you can still only pick up ammo from 1 in maybe 3 weapons even with 2 different weapons and all of the rifles are just generic 5.56 ARs. Heck they almost all use the same magazine standard in real life. And yeah I am still early in the game but as bad as its been so far I am not seeing any reason to continue.

P.S. And no I didn't really like dragon age. That game is pretty bad also its just better than this.

As a matter of fact when you get into act 2 where there is a wall and bench full of guns to pick from, pick up the SCAR-H LMG with the ACOG. 1 hit to the head or 2 to the chest WILL kill any opponent. You should have to give it up to infiltrate the concentration cam before you run out of ammo (100 round mag with 200 rounds in reserve).

caveat: I play on easy difficulty the first time I play any single-player campaign.


Anyway, let me know when you get into act 2 and act 3. The game gets fun then. Act 1 was annoying as hell for me, but I didn't give up because there was more content to see.

Meh it gets a bit better but its still not very good Im afraid.

I've seen crimson play FPS games, it's point at torso->click+click+click+click very very fast.
And amen to the complaint about no fire selector, wth is with all the fully auto only assault rifles? Most countries teach their soldiers to use single aimed shots or burst settings.

Yeah as the soldier I can say that I have almost never used the burst setting on my M16 not even in training. The only people who use the automatic setting are the machine gunners. Special forces makes more use of autofire but I imagine that they still primarily use semi auto.
