Re: Current Projects
If you end up near me nacho I will be glad to help.

Re: Current Projects
I just made a quick side view of the underground pyramid I am planning to build and what it would look like, but it is a first draft so things could change, and I'll make a cross section view sometime in the future when I get to that point.
Some other ideas I came up with are:
-Possible secondary minecart station to the one that will most likely be built in the community village.
-No unnatural lighting
-A 12x12(?) skylight in the roof to tell the time of day
-Leaving the walls of the cave to be built jagged to give it a more natural feel
Here is the Crafty Miner link: http://craftyminer.com/print/2327
Note that the ice is actually glass so you can actually see it, and the large glass thing surrounded by lava is where the minecart track would come in.
Lemme know what you think and if you guys have any suggestions I'm open to them.
EDIT: I'm also looking for expert TNT miners to help out as well >:)

Re: Current Projects
That would look pretty cool, Nacho - gotta love pyramids and fire!
Be aware that if you with the "no unnatural lighting" thing, even with all that lava, your pyramid will fill with mobs in a heartbeat :-/

Oh so lava doesn't stop mobs from spawning? Damn, was hoping I could do it that way...Alizée Fan wrote:That would look pretty cool, Nacho - gotta love pyramids and fire!

Oh well I'll just cover the inside of the pyramid with torches and leave the outside lighted with lava

Re: Current Projects
Lava light will prevent mobs from spawning but only within seven cubes range. The interior will probably be dark enough to spawn hostiles. Generally you will want every tile to be no more that six cubes from a standard torch or seven from a lava flow. Also, mobs don't spawn on transparent blocks*, half blocks, or liquids; use of half steps and glass can limit mob spawns.
*Leaves are never considered transparent in multiplayer.

Re: Current Projects
So, here's an idea for an epic project: the earth. a 1:1 scale of all continents, mountains, etc. landscaping on a massive scale.
It would be so massive and near impossible... but it would be awesome.

Re: Current Projects
Due to the height restriction, it might be somewhat difficult. The Earth is approximately 12.7 million meters on a diameter line through the center, whereas finding a nice shallow bedrock spot that gives you 127 meters to build with is about the best you're going to do in Minecraft. That would allow you to build a 100,000:1 scale model though - a nice blue and green sphereIxtab wrote:So, here's an idea for an epic project: the earth. a 1:1 scale of all continents, mountains, etc. landscaping on a massive scale.

That would actually be only a hair over a million cubic meters in volume, so perfectly doable. The only part that would suck is the excavation of the hole to put it in (and believe me, massive excavation is time consuming!)

Re: Current Projects
A globe would be pretty spiffy too.... but I actually meant making the actual terrain like the earth. It would be flat, not a globe, but it would be like a 1:1 scale map of the earth. The height restriction would still interfere with mountains and canyons, but I think it would still make an awesome project. Especially to see it on the top down google mappy thing.

Re: Current Projects
We actually discussed doing a full size recreation of one of the world's smaller countries a bit back. In my own research, I came to the conclusion that Monaco would be a great candidate for recreation. It's small enough, you could even do every single street and building - a true copy of the country. It would, unforunately, have to cut the high point short, as Mont Agel peaks at 140m, but otherwise, you'd be there.
There are only about 2 million square meters of land in the country, though doing the coastlines and filling in some ocean would be necessary to get the look right. Burrowing that 2 square km burrowed to bedrock would suck and a half, but hey - gotta suffer in the name of art.

Re: Current Projects
I'm going to start on a mob spawner thing, as well as build more wooden towers and bridges.
I had to cancel my original plan of making it look like a napalm'd forest due to the last patch changing eternal fire...so now I plan to flood the stuff around my mountain fort.

Also, I'm building a space port/hotel thing.
