I think so long as they respect the server and the people, as well as their property both built and in chests, it should be no problem.

Is that suppose to be "discretion" ?
I would say let them play so long as they make Ville Accounts. That way other people could potentially get in contact with them if needed. Also keep in mind anything they do reflects upon you

Re: Minecraft disgression question
We were just talking about my first day, everyone was barking at me because I didn't know what I was doing. Thankfully, some chose to instruct rather than simply bark and I learned.
Simple etiquette is what almost anyone cares about. Little things like closing doors behind you, resealing openings you open, replanting trees etc. Do not simply take. . . borrow and replace. Do not amend anything you did not build. Asthetics matter to a lot of us, even our mines are made to look epic. What is appealing to you may not be to another. So random mining/building should be kept underground or away from others. If building in an existing town, seek permission where to build first.
In the beginning, I would instruct them to ask a lot of questions before taking action, it will generally spare everyone a lot of grief and speed the learning process.

I have a butt and you do too. Let's be friends.

telling them to look at the maps stevo makes would also be good, that way they can plot a course and find some land to work on
