Cataclysm

Post by ShadyJane » Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:35 am

I haven’t seen any threads talking about this so I assume I’m in the minority but I figured I’d ask if anyone here plays WoW? I am horde on Sargeras and Laughing Skull and would like to gank some alliance with any willing fellow villuns.

Theres one thread talking crap on WoW. Rather, I do see a few people on my friends list playing cata. I myself am struggling getting hooked on it, which is probably a good thing.

I have Horde toons on Lightning's Blade. Leveling doesn't feel like it took long to get to 85. But the regular difficulty on dungeons are frustrating and fun at the same time.

For the first time ever I am finding myself actually reading (and subsequently enjoying) the quest text. I really enjoy the pacing in the new zones and the difficulty in the dungeons. It's nice to actually have to CC in order to get to the bosses instead of AoEing everything down.

Cataclysm is much better then wrath since I enjoy the storyline and I like a challenge in the dungeons, but getting killed by horde is just getting annoying.

I already quit Cata. It was nothing impressive. Gotta edit to elaborate. I've been playing WoW for about a year in beta. In vanilla I was in a top raiding guild, #1 on the server and I myself hold records like having the first nefarian head. We raided about 40 hours a week, this doesn't count my personal farm time as I was in competition for most gold on the server. In Burning Crusade my guild collapsed with many server transfer to larger better guilds on better servers. I managed to get into a new guild and we soon became #1 on server. We raided about 20 hours a week however I never feel into one of the cliques. At the end of Cata I retired after we got the first KJ kill on the server. Wraith came out at about Christmas time. I got a free copy in early January and it wasn't until February I actually managed to get my toon to 80. After doing Naxramas a few times and getting the all Northrend quests done I fell back out of the game. I periodically logged back in to try out all new 5-man instances and during springbreak to fill end for vacationing guildies and to get a chance to raid Ulderan.

So after that wall of text you can probably realize why I can't stand to get hooked on Cata. I have been posting Cata ideas (redo old world, flying mounts) in the WoW suggestion thread ever since Burning Crusade was announced. So while they have done a lot of stuff that seems great and fit in perfect I am just done with the game. Its really nothing new or unique. They have done a lot more with the vehicles but that was Wrath's thing. There is also a lot more phasing, also wrath's thing. Really, Cata doesn't have it's new function that changes gameplay.

Heck yea Biker! I didn’t realize you were a raider. What class did you play back in vanilla? For some reason I am going to guess a warlock. What server are/were you on when you had been playing cata?

I got to 80 on my priest in wrath and realized that no one even had to use CC anymore. It was just dumb and I just never proceeded past a few Naxx runs. I reactivated my account in November and starting leveling a mage alt (my god, I didn’t realize how poopy leveling a priest was till I experienced the awesomeness that a pure dps class is) and I’m now at 77 in an empty northrend working on my mad cooking skillz!

Anyway, they reinstated the difficulty. People need to coordinate and CC again instead of AoE every damn pull. I LOVE the changes they have made to the guild system. I love archeology a lot…most notably because of the world pvp it creates (I’m also on a pvp server) through common digsites. I actually was in this epic battle in a level 15 zone over the weekend that all started when I saw some worgen rogue trying to gank a fellow horde. Then reinforcements were called in and suddenly there are 20 people just killing each other over and over.

At the same time I hear ya. Guild drama blows and it can really hamper your ability to progress or even simply enjoy yourself. Cata also offers nothing unique, but I feel like their use of phasing has really improved the way the new zones develop. I am still killing 10 boars or collecting 10 boar furs or whatever. However I will admit that the cata quests are of much higher quality (imo) and I find myself always reading the quest text…for the first time ever.

I feel like the streamlined a lot of the BS like travel time or finding dungeon groups while making sure that progressing actually requires patience and competence.

With that said I have friends who are just sick of the whole WoW system. They can’t get back into it and it sounds like you’re in the same avenue.

I'm finding it hard not to get back into the game. I'm really liking Cata so far. Like Shady says, the questing is far superior to anything in the game from before. They've actually done a great job making you feel involved in the game world. Yeah, the phasing and all that isn't new, but they've really worked on perfecting it and increasing the overall feel of being a part of the game. I like that the new instances require some form of teamwork instead of just attacking everything that moves.

I was mostly a Vanilla raider as well. I spent many hours back in the day in MC, BWL, AQ, and Naxx. Once BC came out I had graduated from college and got a job. And I found it hard to keep up with raiding until midnight and then getting up at 4:00 for work the next day. So that was pretty much the end of my raiding and most of my interest in WoW. I didn't care all that much for BC and the little bit I did play usually involved doing some BGs.

I started playing again at the end of Wrath, and mostly just ran the heroics. While I liked how quick they were, there was an overall lack of any skill required to do them. I'm fighting the urge to try and get into raiding again though as I've really missed that aspect of the game.

The new stuff for questing & character development are the fixes this game has been in need of for a long time. The game is actually enjoyable to play as it's meant to be played. That's the newest thing from the WoW series for me. I enjoyed a lot of time in WoW, don't get me wrong, but back in the day it was ALL about the PvP & raiding. Getting to max lvl was just a drag & grind, a chore to be able to experience the fun aspects of the game....eventually. Happy to say that this is no longer the case with the fluidity & polish of current WoW.

The changes to the guild system are really the most prominent to me. With getting levels and rep and perks I actually feel encouraged to go help out some lowbies blast through a dungeon or help out others with some mats so they can get their professions up. I think this expo they focused more on refining what they already have instead of shooting for the next best thing.

What servers are you guys on?

Alliance?! PvE?!!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I don't suppose either of you want to roll some toons on Sargeras (pvp) with me? I'd even consider making my first alliance character just for you guys!

I leveled an alt to 70 with my coworkers on a PVP server a while ago. I don't really care to do that again. Especially now that flying is available in the old world. I like the idea of world pvp, just not while I'm minding my own business leveling.

Back before the game came out I had always figured I'd play as an Orc as they were my favorite race from WC2/3. But, my old college roommate had rolled Alliance before I ever got the game. Since I wanted to play with him I went Alliance.

I raided and do still raid, raided vanilla as a paladin, now im a worgen dk (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/b ... l/advanced) took a break for bc and wotlk, coming back at the end of wotlk raided through 25 hlk and am now raiding again. Im liking the feel of cata, and i think they did some things right. I hate the new raiding system cuz i...being an elitest...still feel like they are handing out welfare gear... especially since 10's and 25's are now the same exact gear...and lock outs...but over all im liking it a bit more than wrath

As far as rolling on a pvp server...no thanks, the concept of world pvp is fine, the concept of people 10 lvls above you camping, no

I got my account recovered the day before cataclysm came out... I've been distracted by minecraft so i've only had a few minutes of trying to straighten things out on all my toons.
