Really old school shooters

Post by Bakuryu » Sat Dec 11, 2010 1:27 pm

As I was perusing the packed up boxes in my parent's attic, I came across a box for Rise of the Triad, one of my all time favorite shooters, but the disks were all missing. After doing a little legwork, I discovered it could be purchased online and will run on a newer OS, and have been splitting all my game time between it and TF2. If anyone has played it before and was looking for a way to find it, I found it on gog, and if you haven't it's $6 US and a heck of a shooter. Probably the most fun I've ever had playing an old school shooter (elastic mode+shrooms mode = win).
I will find you...and I will kill you

Pain in the @&^% TF'er since 2000.

I still play mechwarrior 4 mercenaries especially now that it is available free. Not olnly is it free but they added a ton of weapons and mechs. They even added the copyright infringement mechs that killed the most recent mechwarrior game before it could get off the ground.

I boot up my emulators every now and then, I find myself often returning to Wolfenstein 3D or Goldeneye 007 on many occasions, but a lot of old-school shooters didn't do it for me. I grew up as a platformer/puzzle nut.

That being said, Doom 2, Unreal, Half-Life, and many other old games are very good and still worth a replay.

I don't play it now, but I remember playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 like crazy, I thought that game was badass, despite being so hard. I noticed it seemed near impossible to beat some of those levels without using the fly cheat, but then again I was really young when I was playing that and probably didn't know half of what I was acctually doing.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

I haven't heard of triad.

Mechwarrior 4 is not really old school. Maybe mech1?

I'm also found of area 51 and timecrisis 1/2 arcade games. I used to be pro at both.

Ya know, I gotta admit...

Oregon Trail was the first shooter I ever played.
