Megumi Hayashibara is awesome. I also liked Orange Range and the Pillows.

Oh, Frost, speaking of creepy animes, have you seen Paprika?
I saw it years ago on TV, but I do remember it really messing with your mind.

Paprika is a pretty good movie. It's by the same director as Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers, all of which are good movies.

Re: Anime Recomendations From an Old School Otaku
I figure its about time I give this a bump and post some more recommendations.
First an obvious choice as this is the series my name sake is from.

Geobreeders (Akihiro Ito)
How to enjoy: Read the manga and watch the anime but don't expect completion in America.
Description: Taba is starting a new job. A high paying position with Kagura Security. A nice desk job or so he thought. Now he is stuck fighting the Phantom cat menace with a bunch of insane women and he must find a way to quit before this job kills him. Favorite character ? Who else. Maki "Crimson Shooting Star" Umizaki the series self proclaimed mysterious gunperson. Her crazy antics and mad gun skills make her one of my all time favorite anime characters.
Next an older series a lot of you probably haven't heard of.
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
How to enjoy: there is only an anime so this one is easy
Description: The story of a young and mysterious young man named Tylor. After seeing an add for the military he decides to join declaring to the recruiter that it is the easy life. After a rather odd set of events Tylor ends up being promoted to captain and placed in charge of the most notorious ship in the fleet the Soyokazi. Now its just a matter of which will destroy the Soyokazi Its irresponsible captain, its belligerent crew or the enemy.
Finally something shojo for the ladies (and the men when no one is looking)
Fruits Basket (Natsuki Takaya)
How to enjoy: The anime is ok but it cuts out early best to read the manga
Description: When high school student Tohru Honda's mother died in a car accident, Tohru begins living in a tent and supporting herself. That is, until she finds a home in the least likely of places ( yeah i cheated and copied that from the wiki
). Now she is living with members of the Sohma family, a cursed and full of dark secrets. Can this cheery young girl be the force that changes the Sohmas forever? Favorite character is Kagura because shes funny.
That is all for now. See you next time

The best anime ever has got to be Detroit Metal City. I have never laughed so hard at an anime.

I dunno about best but DMC is awesome. I laugh my butt off every time he slips and goes into character.Jesus_Faction wrote:The best anime ever has got to be Detroit Metal City. I have never laughed so hard at an anime.

You know, if I wasn't already watching three anime series right now, I would probably watch Captain Tylor just because it sounds really funny.

It is one of the true classics and most people have never heard of it. kids these days with their cartoon networks don't appreciate the classics. I remember watching this series on VHS back in the day. We didn't even have the complete series just the first and last tapes and it was still awesomeBronze Fox wrote:You know, if I wasn't already watching three anime series right now, I would probably watch Captain Tylor just because it sounds really funny.

Gundam Unicorn is pretty good. Since it is an OVA they're only releasing an episode once every several months.

The only Gundam I've ever had an interest in was Seed. It aired on Cartoon Network at 1:30AM every Friday/Saturday night. Before that, at 1AM, they aired one of the .Hacks. This was all years ago though.Clay Pigeon wrote:Gundam Unicorn is pretty good. Since it is an OVA they're only releasing an episode once every several months.

Skip to present, I look up the DVD on Amazon, and it seems all of the DVD's have disk problems so half of the disks won't work.
Curse you Bandai. . .

Re: Anime Recomendations From an Old School Otaku
I've recently finished The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and I anxiously await the release of the film "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" on the 18th.

Thanks, Beeron. :)

Does the old "Hobbit" cartoon of Bilbo Baggins count?
