I will probably end up buying the Scout and Spy stuff...because I'm a sucker.

A real-money store is necessary, sadly. Once item trading is in, they HAVE to put a real-money store in, because otherwise it'll just go to Ebay, IGE, etc. This allows them to regulate sales, and avoid becoming the recipient of a thousand whiny "I bought it and he didn't give it to me plz ban him!" cry-babies. Every game ever made that has in-game trading suffers from a real-money aftermarket, and this is about the only responsible way to control it.

What I am pleased with is that items acquired before the store was put in are now all listed as "Vintage" versions, so it's easy to tell you've got a real dropped one from the old days, and not a new or purchased one. Suffice to say, my Vintage hats will only be traded for other Vintage hats!

Yeah,. but I already have two items with Vintage in the name, will I have a Vintage Vintage Merryweather/Tyrolean?

But, seriously, the buying this is good for exactly the reasons AF stated.

Lastly, Carpe you better get crafting a demo or heavy hat if you want my Baker Boy!. :D

So what do you guys think about the new weapons?

I'm personally liking the battalion's backup and powerjack. I'm also interested in seeing how the spy and sniper sets work.

That's still going to happen, except the people on eBay now will just have to sell it lower than whatever Valve is charging. That was going to happen whether this store came up or not - it's just a sad fact of life.

On a side note, I just realized that all the Polycount hats actually affect the game now since they help with the group effect. That rubs me the wrong way a little...

What would be the difference if they didn't? If you could wear the Croc Shield, new knife and rifle for Sniper and get the bonus with any hat? They're useless on their own, just like every other hat. If they're gonna go with the weapon set concept they might as well go full-bore.

I assume that the hats will still drop at an extremely low rate, meaning those that get lucky enough for a drop or to get one from crafting will get that in-gameadvantage, however tiny it might be.

It's mostly to cut off the black market on Ebay that gets created with any online RPG that has players being able to trade items.

So instead of people paying some guy 50 bucks for a rare hat, valve sells it for... I don't know 2.

EDIT: ninjaed by Alize.

At first I was skeptical of the store but it looks like they're doing it right with them having no store exclusives. I guess the store is designed for impatient people who want hats NOW & cut down on the ebay trades.

edit: so where is this store? is it up?

I don't think it's accessible yet. The servers are probably slammed right now.

Quick, someone launch the Model Viewer and look at the new, non-item-set hats. Post some pics. :)

Also, recipes are out for the new item set items.
