Laptop problems

Post by Corgasm » Sun May 23, 2010 8:15 am

My dog jumped on my laptop, and now it's making a high pitches squealing noises when the speakers are set to above 40. And before you all ask, it's not mic feedback, because I have all mic's disabled... I'm lost as to what the problem could be.

so please halp, tech-saavy villuns, as I am in dire need of your assistance! :C

Is it causing problems for the laptop instead of just making high pitched squealing sounds?

I assume we're talking about a fairly sizable dog, here?

Ok, first test - plug in a set of headphones, and crank it up. If the squeal comes out the headphones, it's your audio hardware. If it doesn't, it's your speakers themselves.

As for the nature of the squeal, is it a sound similar to mic feedback (even though I know your mic is off), or is it a computer generated pitch being output, like and error tone? That'll tell us if it's an environmental issue, or an internal one.

Does it get louder as your volume goes up, or does it simply kick in at a certain point, and remain constant?

Once we establish those things, we should be able to focus in a bit more clearly.
