stupid windows xp question

Post by bigfoot_hunter » Fri Apr 02, 2010 10:50 pm

I should know this, but: after my screen saver comes on it asks me for a password. I like the password for starting windows (it keeps my dad out of the porn sites) but gets annoying to log on 5 times a day. Where is the menu that controls that? I've looked over and over. What am I missing? :?

right click on the desktop, go to where you change/configure the sceensaver and remove the checkbox for requireing a password when you stop the sceensaver.....

Thats the Q & D de.scription not the exact instructions but you should be able to find it.

Something about annoying passwords rings a bell....
Can I ask a question?

Everytime I'm on my brothers labtop, I go to a website I normally go to and a window pops up out of nowhere and says "password required". This window pops up EVERY minute for EVERY website.

I asked my brother if I could stop the window from interupting my activities, but he said, "It's my labtop, you shouldn't be on it anyways. That window is for all my recollected passwords for the websites I go to." So, I guess it's just a privacy thing.

But still, the "password required" window is annoying.
Does anyone else do this for privacy? because I don't get it. I was just wondering if I could cancel that window once and for all. My main concern is seeing my brothers passwords, because I don't want to invade his privacy. I don't want to hack.....

It sounds like the content advisor for IE. That will ask for a login name/password for every place you go if its not disabled. Possibly it's a security add on for IE.
Try installing Chrome >.> Thats installed to your user profile so you wont have to worry about accidentally stealing his password or Content Advisor. It's a decent solution.

Does chrome still cancel your download if you close the tab you started the download from?

I was responding to your question.
Knowing that it's Firefox makes it seem like its an add on. I havent heard of any add on like this, BUT that doesnt mean it doesnt exist, there about a billion add ons for Firefox. If you dont want to install Chrome you could figure out which add on it is and disable it while you use Firefox. Chrome might be easier though.

It's most likely Firefox's password manager. Firefox can have multiple profiles, each with their own saved passwords.

This page http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles goes into more detail on the subject. By default Firefox will ask which profile to use. I might suggest having it load his profile automatically and when you use the PC you can load your profile manually. This way, he will be none the wiser that settings changes have occurred.
