Cleaning an LCD screen

Post by mujo » Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:16 pm

What is the best solution for cleaning an LCD monitor? Sneezespots, food, baby finger smudges.... I tried using a mildly dampened microfiber cloth (similar to one found for cleaning glasses) and it seemed to smear more than cleanse. Thank you for any input.

They have wipes to do this. You can find them at staples and presumably places like walmart. They come in individually sealed things and big containers like baby wipes come in. You might need to use your fingernails while using the wipe to get the really stuck on things off, but I haven't ever done any damage to my LCDs by doing this.

I use the wipes you can get at any office store, walmart, or target.

Most thing to note, don't use any window cleaner or anything with alcohol. If you are unsure, just use a soft towel (not paper towel) and water.

I have an alcohol based spray for cleaning optics that I use. Works well, but I haven't tried dealing with heavy duty chunky stuff like that.

LOLS

Like I said, the wipes work. You just have to do a little gentle scrubbing.

Optics are glass, which is why alcohol works well.
LCD aren't glass screens and alcohol can destroy the material.

Really? I'm sorry if that was bad advice, I have had no issue though.

edit: I looked into it and I guess it breaks down the coating over time, which is why I wouldn't have had a problem, I haven't cleaned it much yet. Glad this thread prompted me to check it out.

Windex and paper towel. High tech style. Ive never had a problem with it and you prolly have some sitting around home.
