So you are saying I'm useless with a targe for my team eh? I can't aim my normal grenades?

I will first ask you to retract that blanket statement to all demo's with targe before I retort.

People of Earth:

As someone who spends most of his time as engy, I must applaud the demomen that choose to be brave and go sword and board.

Thank you all.

Sounds to me like another Demoman who ignores his Pipes and how useful they are to me, Avar. Stickies are versatile, yes, but give me Pipes over them any day.

P.S.: Sentries are easy to destroy with Pipes. You just need to actually aim.

Your chances of destroying a sentry with an engineer hiding behind it with pipes is awful small. It seems to take at least 3 to actually pop it, so you could in theory do it...but it blocks your shot on the engy. Sure, you might be able to kill an undefended sentry with an uber, but with my stickies I can easily pop two. Better yet, you don't even need an uber to take out a gun being repaired if you lob them over the ridge or duck in-and-out.

I'm not implying that the Targe is useless, but demos that use it take on an entirely different role than sticky demos. They *cannot* obliterate an enemy base reliably and with ease.

There's also the people who should be backing up the Uber and helping to bring down the Sentry.

Ain't it the truth.

There are too many other things that bug me more than a team of stickyless demos. Like a team with 3 scouts, 2 snipers, 2 spies, and no medic. I just brace myself for the roflstomp.
stickies > targe

The targe is fun to play with. But it is really useless for helping a team overall.
I second this... I only use the targe when there is less people and it's a melee brawl....

I do use the eyelander though...... I like slicing heads off...

Stickies all the ways though!!

I think you may need to read what Avar is saying again Carpe. When I read it I see him making the same point as you.

I had a much longer post written but decided to nix it and stay simple. I fully agree on this and was one of many points I was going to mention. The WP peeps know me and all should know I am vocal when I am going in with an uber and ask all to follow us in. I will even hold up the medic/uber to wait for more people to gather up for a charge a lot of the time. A coordinated charge will win everytime.

Destroying the SG's is an important aspect but only one of many in a match. There are pro's and con's to the targe but focusing on 1 thing bothered me. Also there are many ways about going on a attack of a entrenched position. Is anyone else distracting from another entry point (ie.. ridge or lower tunnel), is there a spy helping with sapping, etc..

2 direct hits with pipes will drop a SG everytime. The only way a engi will save a SG is if they are ,pounding away on a SG between the 1st and 2nd hit, which is maybe a second? I think at best 1 out of 5 times I have attacked a SG with an engi on it, do they save it. I also usually get 5 to 6 pipes out on an uber, not just 4. Rarely do I pull out the sword on a uber unless SG's are down or if I am stuck due to a pyro blast back. (tip: if you can get a hit on the SG from an angle where splatter will hit the engineer, the 2nd pipe will kill them and at worst your 3rd pipe will take the SG down.)

1 more tip: wait until Somedude is dead before charging in with an uber! :P

Looks like a good game, I see no "ownage". I don't get it.
I have a butt and you do too. Let's be friends.

The OP is talking about going in with an uber and wishing to have stickies instead of targes. Not sitting back safe with a kritz worried about losing a domination.

I think the charge demo has beaten the huntsmen sniper for "most fun yet unpractical" weapon loadout.

Can you take out a sentry with pipes yet? Yes! But in theory you can take out a sentry with any class however demos with stickies are the most effective. I can take out 3 different sentry nests (maybe 4 with the 4th being taken out by pipes but don't quote me on that one) with 1 uber has a demo even if they are at different elevations and are at a distance from each other, you can't do that as any other class and you can't do that with the targe demo.

There's no denying targe is strong it's just sticky demos are essential, in a coordinated push against a massive sentry nest and campers. They're the strongest spearhead especially on a cramped map like warpath.

This is a bit different on TVX where ubers are more often survival tools rather then essential for a push (it'll help you survive a scout gank where your patient isn't paying attention) or as a way to turn around a deathmatch fight.
