An article came out tuesday talking about staying away from any smart phone that isn't a BlackBerry or iPhone. I do not particularly agree since a person will probably rotate the phone close to every two years, but some of the other information in the article is interesting.

I would think yahoo might be a bit biased versus Google?
I got to play with a Nexus One this morning, and it will be giving the iPhone a run for its money. Google is once again changing the game. They are removing the dependancy of certain phones with a certain carrier or at least trying to. One of their goals is to change the way wireless carrier market to users. By taking away one of the largest deciding factors of why we choose a carrier (OMG, I just have to have that phone, which only carreir X has) it will force the wireless providers to sell more on quality, features, and performance of their wireless networks instead of what phone they exclusively have. This ultimately benefits all of us.
The nexus one isn't revolutionary, but I think Google's strategy is. I just hope they have the ability to follow through as they will get resistance. You already see the major carriers starting to battle it out on service. Anyway the N1 has a lot of the same features as the iPhone but has improved it with many more. I liked the phone and may consider buying one very soon. Unfortunately my dependence is on Blackberry because of its corporate email integration at the moment but will quickly get better with the future popularity I see with Androids. I personally don't care Apple has 100k apps where Android has 20k. The good apps are on both.
Arfy, no matter what phone you get it will get out dated the next week. Its all about what you really need and what you are willing to pay for. Cell phones aren't going to be getting any cheaper as I do believe we are seeing a true convergence of the Internet with phones over the next year or 2 and devices will get more powerful and complex. But I'd personally wait until Verizon releases their version though!
A possible upcoming competitor that could shake up the space is Google's (GOOG) Android. According to ComScore, as of October, the Android's market share had doubled to 3.5% in the past year.

I'd say there is an agenda that it's pushing...don't buy external hard drives, use online backup? don't buy point and shoot cameras, buy SLRs?
lol at the media

Re: Which Cell Phone to buy
I'm very happy with the iphone 3g too. Had it for over a year.
If I had a choice for a new phone, I would get another just the 3gs. Imo, nobody is going to beat apple and the apps they have unless they come out with the next big thing in technology.
Just an opinion.

I hate all these new cell phones tbh. It makes me want to get rid of mine just to spite everyone who thinks they need to be able to get a hold of me when ever they want to.
I hate cell phones, i hate talking on the phone, i hate carrying it, and remembering to charge it, and paying the bill.

You feel better Blah? I do.

Before too long each carrier will use the same network technology and having phones based on carriers will be gone. In a few years the newest version of the iPhone will work with Verizon. Apple is even working on devices that will work with Verizon now, they just have not been released and are not the iPhone.

Signed. I am dropping my phone as soon as the contract is up, but I can only do so because work makes me carry a Blackberry which I'll tell people to use if they need to call me.
My wife is in love with her iPhone.

Why yes, yes I do feel better now.
Texting is bane of all existence in my opinion. I hate it, I Hate It, I HATE IT!!! Just call me!!!
First its a phone away from home, then its instant messaging away from home, and now its Internets from away from home. Its almost to TV away from home. Whats next? a Microwave away from home? maybe a fridge away from home. Before long, there will be no more use for home!
ps. I originally wrote the first two words of this post as "I why" instead of "Why yes." I'm not so sure how or why.

Why all the hate for texting? It helps me a heck of a lot in my line of work, especially for long distance communication as sometimes the person who I'm trying to reach is either busy or not available. Leaving a text saves me time and money! Now if it's the adolescents who text away their parents' money on useless garbage 'OMG! i like turtles!11 ROFLzbbQ! ahm on toilet har har' then I can understand any argument of the decline of our civilization.
Back to the OP, Arfy, if you want a smart phone, it's either the iPhone or any Android phone; although I prefer Verizon for better coverage. Between the Droid and Nexus One there are few differences and any difference is small at most excluding the processing speed. N1 clearly is faster. I'd say wait for the Nexus to be connected with Verizon this Spring unless you favor T-Mobile.
