Zoot Suits versus Gangster Suits

Post by Masakari » Tue Sep 01, 2009 8:42 am

(For the record, I made a new topic because the old one was getting way off-topic for the picture thread)

I don't know what kind of world Plinko and JB grew up in, but they for some reason are convinced that Fedoras were only worn with Zoot Suits. I don't even know where they get this from. [url=Fedoras were worn by various groups of people during that era, including detectives, gangsters, middle class, and even Orthodox Jews.

Zoot suits are ugly things (At least in my mind) that are way larger than the person wearing them, and according to Wikipedia were "popularized by African Americans, Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Italian Americans, and Filipino Americans during the late 1930s and 1940s."

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE PEOPLE! :)

Also, props to Keyes for being smart.

Not a zoot suit, and not a fedora.
A fedora "is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides" which your hat clearly does not have.

I am afraid of how right Jim and Bronze Fox are here.

Also, don't forget that no one here except maybe JD grew up in a world where people dressed like either version.

I dont know guys, I've owned alot of fedora's the past couple years and while they don't have the same brim as that one, the top part looks very much alike.

and the the topic of zoot suits, is that what jim carrey is wearing in the mask in the club scene?

Im afraid of how wrong Plinko, JB and Fox are. That is Clearly a fedora, and the rest of the suit is NOTHING like a zoot suit, which is normally huge with shoulder pads...and is excessively gaudy...plus Masa is clearly not Rioting...so it CANT be a zoot suit

That hat slopes way too much to be a fedora. It looks like a witch's hat with the point cut off.

See, neither neither of you guys seem to be understanding what we're saying. No Italian/Irish mobster would be caught dead wearing half that outfit (that hat, the blue shirt), and no zoot suiter would have worn the rest. That's why I used the word pastiche, it looks like you mashed the zoot hat and garish coloration with a regular suit and a tommy gun.
