I made a handy, dandy letter for people who are unhappy with, among other things, the hat drop rate.

Code: Select all
Dear Valve:
I am writing to let you know that I can no longer stand TF2.
Since the game was released, you have:

Hats are, and always have been, rare drops. You're not MEANT to get them so easily.
Rare - /rɛər/
–adjective, rar⋅er, rar⋅est.
1. coming or occurring far apart in time; unusual; uncommon
2. thinly distributed over an area; few and widely separated
Otherwise they wouldn't be rare, and thus, wouldn't be special.
And I would also add, I have yet to find a hat. I play a lot, too. Currently, I have the 19th long playtime on the Ville servers this year. Would I like a hat, definitely. Do I think I should have gotten a hat by now, probably yes. Am I going to cheapen the whole process for one, and completely remove the fun and excitement of getting one eventually? Not on your life. I have something called patience. Good things come to those who wait
I don't mean to sound confrontational but I just don't understand the fervent need. They offer no gameplay advantages, and most of all, YOU don't even get to see them! Your game before and after wearing a hat will be not change in the least. Unless you sit and taunt over and over to admire it, the only ones who "benefit" from it are the people who get to see it fly off your head when they kill you.

Yes, people who idle for hats certainly are special.

Re: Hats/Idling
I don't idle due to my complete indifference, but it doesn't matter to me if anyone idles to get one.
Besides, anyone that I see with a hat makes them stand out and therefore a more prominent target. Therefore, hats are bad for you.
Also. NO HAT, NEVER GET.

There is a difference between "I don't care about hats" and "I don't care about hats enough to use a third party program to hack Steam." Personally, I don't care if someone idles, but I also wouldn't have the slightest shred of sympathy if running the idle client resulted in the cancellation of their steam account. Nor would I disagree with Valve's decision to respond so.

Its not like you can actually see your hat while you are wearing it. This is NOT a third person shooter or other third person online game.
Thus it makes me ask.... why bother? it won't make you better, if won't help your cause, it will make you a bigger target, and lastly, it will cause you grief in attempting to get one.
So save the planet, your computer, and yourself. Just play the game.

Eater of Potatoes, since 2008.
I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.
