Well, it is true that many 'clans' are temporary associations assembled solely for the purpose of a particular competition, only a very rare selection of those will live much past the end of that event.
It's also true that very few server communities (outside of the corporate-sponsored) last more than a year or two. Even community-based groups aren't going to survive for much longer than their community does.
The games and places people play change so they move along, nothing wrong with that. What's in the water at the Ville is a continuous community that has managed to survive despite the changing flavor of game trends since 1999, very few communities survive a changeover in gaming as the Ville has over the years.
Usually a game dies out, it's adherents all find different games they want to play instead and they join or form new, different communities.
From what I understand there were some lean times in those years as well as fat ones like today. Stable ownership that keeps tweaking and improving with the times is also key. If The Ville was still a 24/7 Turkeyburgers server, there probably wouldn't be much community in 2009, but here we are with TF2, L4D, Dod, DoD:S PVKii, NeoTF. . . it's a testament to leadership and the community for keeping on.
This!
Very well said Plinko, we did fall on some very lean times in the past and that helped us improve. Leadership is key but would be nothing without the foundation of reputable villuns that call this there home and have stayed throughout the years. Thank you all for caring and hanging in there through both lean and good times.
Oh and goats are good.

Arfy,
This has been asked so many times.....Tomorrow - I'm writing a "The History of The Ville" post. That will answer all your questions.
To answer your 2 questions you asked tonight: It was started by some friends at a company called Clark Graphics in 1999, and "The Ville" has changed ownership a few times since then. The current owners are a mysterious group of strange people interested in World Domination.
No - Dog doesn't own the "The Ville". As per the servers, some of them are owned by some of the server operators (Like TV1 is owned personally by one of the admins) and the others are rentals. To avoid having the owners of the servers continually harassed, we do keep quiet about who owns which machines.
Wait and read my post tomorrow. I think it will answer all your questions.

To me it does. Goat no matter the age taste the same. Mutton is sheep older than a year and is a little tougher and has a little bit of an after taste to me. They have a totally differnt texture when you eat it also. But the only goat I make is bbq goat. The mutton i have had is has been done in the oven. So until i cook them the same cant totally say so. Fresh lamb on the other had is the best tasting thing to me.

Re: Guilds and stuff
Not to detract further but mutton, as stated above, is sheep. Lamb is young sheep.
Goat is just that, goat. And kid is young goat.
All are extra super duper delicious.
