TCP/IP optimization
I need some tips on optimizing my internet speed. I just got a new DSL modem, and found out that unoptimized my connection is 5.5 Mbs. This is not what they tell me, this is what I actually get. I want some more ideas on optimization to try to see what else I can get out of it

DSL?
My advice to optimize your connection is to cancel your DSL and get cable. Haven't you seen that commercial with the turtles?

Heh, I'm just givin' ya the business, beav.
I don't know what to tell you. I've always used cable. Are you getting the premium DSL? Here, you can get DSL lite, DSL whatever and the fastest DSL premium or something. My friend has the fastest DSL and he tells me he's not getting the speed that is advertised.

The interesting things about the cable vs DSL debate in my area, is that although DSL has the slower download and upload speeds, cable users always get a higher ping.
Preacherman is cable. I'm DSL.
My connection is better even though his is much faster! I guess Telus have less servers to hop through than Shaw!
I used to be on cable but it drove me nuts to have the connection slow down in the evenings!

I had DSL at my old place about 6 months ago and uploading anything was insanely slow, but my download seemed good... good enough to game, that made me happy.
I have cable now, and its much more solid and faster... just my experiences. Not to mention the customer service was lame from the DSL company. Its pretty much the same price, so I vote cable.
As far as optimizing... call your tech support, thats a pretty complicated issue with too many variables to give any real advice =)

Re: TCP/IP optimization
If my connection slows during peak hours or whatever, It's not noticeable. It think it probably does depend on your geographical location as to how good/bad the service.

I use Broadband Reports to keep my connection in check. From main page,
click on Tools. There's a lot of helpful tools to tweak your connection.

Re: TCP/IP optimization
I just upgraded my DSL a few weeks ago to the 1.5-3 MB connection. I used those speed test to do before and afters, and I was about 1.4 before and I am about 2.4 after. However, I haven't noticed that much difference in game. I also put in a wired connection that I can use when playing and that also didn't give me much improvement in game either.
