TF2 in Linux

Post by Mr. Poodlepants » Fri May 01, 2009 5:51 pm

Last June I bought a new computer, and I've been running Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) as my primary operating system. But I have XP installed on my system as well because I can't get TF2 to run with any performance. So I was wondering if any Villuns use some form of Linux as their primary TF2 vehicle, and if so, what issues they had/what emulator or compatibility layer they use. Is there anyone who gets native quality performance out of wine or crossover? Cause I'd love to ditch windows completely.

That's what I do currently. I'd just like to be able to have similar performance in linux to avoid having to boot into windows at much as possible.

In the past I've been successful in running Steam in Linux using Wine. But at that time I had only tried playing DoD 1.3 with decent performance, that was because my machine was sub-par for it.

That was about a year or two ago, so they may have made it easier than what I had to deal with.
