contact steam support make a ticket and see if they will take the information. always better for you to have a buffer zone between you and any authority. Also this is more or less a Steam based issue. they have lawyers on retainer for this sort of thing let them sort it all out...
thats my dollar's worth of advice

That is exactly what I am going to do, report everything to steam. Then sign him up on some gay dating web sites.

I was actually going to suggest signing him up for any spam related junk mail you could possibly do...but on the other hand its kinda stooping to his level....hmmm something to think about though...

As suggested, giving Steam the information is probably the best way to go. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but local law enforcement and the FBI aren't going to give a crap. All it will do is get added to crime stats.
I'm sure Steam has all sorts of information on others who do the same thing, so they might be more likely to do something with it.
And I can *guarantee* that an agency like the FBI will be more likely to run with something if it comes from a corporation as part of a much more prevalent problem versus an individual that got his account info swiped. Good work deuce.

You'll never know if law enforcement will do anything if you don't report it. If this guy makes a living out of stealing and selling steam accounts he may be a big enough fish to catch the attention of law enforcement. I would recommend contacting your local/county law enforcement, and if they don't handle cyber crime then going to your state/province law enforcement body. The feds are so busy dealing with turrism they don't do as much normal crime investigation anymore.

I never said don't do it. You never know, there might be a department that has the time to look into it. One will be hard pressed to find an agency that will take theft of a video game account seriously, though.
In the US, the FBI and Secret Service handle cybercrime. Or report it through http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.
No clue who handles that in Canadia... maybe the dudes on the horses?

One? Perhaps. Dozens? Hundreds? Each with several hundred dollars worth of software loaded into them?
I'd say that's at least mid-range on the theft meter.

Bah, you know I didn't literally mean one. Yeah there are probably hundreds of people with the same problem, and if they get presented as a package (by Steam, perhaps) it looks a lot more appetizing. Sucks, but even today the Gee Oh Vee still hasn't gotten its act together in regards to cybercrime.

I know that and a lot more. He lives in the US and is actually just a 16 year old kid. I am going to give Steam all the info and proof that I have, including his home address and phone number. He is kind of smart kid to have been able to pull all this off, but also a little dumb in that he left a lot of clues all over the internet for me to track him down with.

Ok, I think we need to insert some reason and the law.
Remember ZRDeuce, anything you say can and will be against you in a court of law, including this thread and any other online conversations you've had about the suspect.
I recommend that you either talk to an attorney about this or contact law enforcement before disclosing anymore information. None of us hear can play cops (there might be a few, but they won't let us know) and ditto with internet lawyer.
I recommend that you stop talking to us and start talking to an attorney or the police, in this case the RCMP. The FBI won't be able to help at all in this case for you because you are a canadian citizen and I recommend you contact the RCMP in your provincial district.

ZR, accept my invite on your steam friends. I did some digging today and think I have his name, school and myspace page. We should compare notes and then you should contact the police.
Also Yahoo, the one thing on ZR's side is that all the information we have gathered is already in the public domain. But yes, I agree he should go to the authorities rather than accusing him on the interwebs.

Re: Found the account hijacker (sort of)
Good points and that is why I have not posted anything specific, just that he is a kid and lives in the US. As Torven says, anyone else could find out what I found, the proof is pretty obvious that it is him, he is selling accounts on about half a dozen web sites that I found.
I took all the information I had and forwarded it to Steam. I asked them to let me know what they were going to do about it, and if they were not going to do anything to let me know so that I could take it up with the authorities. Also even though I am in Canada I could give all the info to any of the other Villains in the US that had their accounts stolen by the same guy, and they could take the issue up with their local authorities.
