What killed Insurgency?
Why did TV11 go from being the number one server in the world to being empty and forlorn?
Did Christmas kill it off? Did the people who normally played Ins get new games for Christmas and never went back?
Or was there something else?
And more importantly, is it worth keeping the server running if no-one populates it?

L4D probably killed it.
We could always have some ville fun on it, but otherwise its not worth it to keep it running.

Re: What killed Insurgency?
My opinion:
It was a combination of things, and it happened around Christmas.
1. People got new games for Christmas (L4D, the WoW expansion etc.).
2. Some who should have been banned weren't. Certain problem players ran others off.
3. Towards the end there were not enough admins playing INS. When we started that server we had more admins on more often. Believe it or not, I credit mostly this for the popularity of the server.
4. The server and the game were never supported by a majority of this community. I can understand that. INS ain't for everyone.
5. For my part, I feel that I could have done more.
I hate to see the server go, but I understand. The game just doesn't appear to appeal to this community aside from a small group of us.

It didn’t have the community foundation to keep it standing. I would have liked the game and played it more, but I don’t like friendly fire. I’m always paranoid of killing my teammates.

The game really wasn't my cup of tea. I tried to like it but I just couldn't get into it. It was insanly hard to see the other team. And half the time I wasn't sure if that dot I saw on the other side of the map was friend or foe. Yet the other team always seemed to know to kill me.
I would love to see a CS:S server here that we could actually get populated. But I know efforts to have one work never really get too much traffic. I've had the urge to play CS but I don't really want to play on a non ville server.

I would love to see a CS:S server back here at the Ville also. However, we didn't get the support we needed from regular villuns. It was hard to get a server seeded and stay populated for more than an hour.

[/quote]Yeah, I think the only people who really played on it regularly were you, Cooper, Tickles, Gator, JB, and myself. I'm sure there were more too, but those were the ones who were there pretty much everytime I went on.
I think a lot of people were afraid to try it out, simply for the bad rep that people give it. When we got that server, it was my first time playing the game, and I had an absolute blast on it. Between eventually getting to a higher level in Cooper in RPG to continually getting my butt kicked in GG, I was always having fun. If we ever got that server back, I know I'd do my part to keep it going.

I think we should turn it into a PVKII server, if we're going to change it.
I liked GG, but regular CS is doo doo, IMO.

Re: What killed Insurgency?
It's also lacking the support of seeding.
As I introduced myself to the game i was quite excited. The game is realistic and did not had the so many "CS kiddies". I really liked the game until i realized that it is meant for serious team play.
If you fight alone you have no chance.
If half of your team is not organized you have no chance.
New comers lower the chance of win as they do team kills. (I am not saying that i hate this fact, and i don't want to bash them, its just a fact)
So you need strong team play to go through a couple of maps. And thats what i felt it is hard to achieve on a public server where you have 16 ppl on your team, from all over the world.
Some don't speak English.
Others don't play sportsman's like. (Spawn Camping, Using Exploits) (No team play)
One or two do TK's by mistake.
And others just do their own thing.
I got frustrated a few times. And had to realize that this game was not meant to be played on public servers. At least I do have the opinion that its not working very well.
Thats why I for myself said, it's a good game, but not meant for me to be played on public servers.
One thing is still open to mention. The game is quite complicated to handle. On some maps you need good players on the Sniper positions. If a newbie grabs that slot and just dose not give it up for some one else the team has barely a chance to survive.
If some classes are blocked by not so skilled players it can end up ugly. Even more if other claim to be better on a different class. Some start to TK ppl that have a specific weapon to just get the weapon of the class.
The main topic this post is about: without strong team play your team will fail. Marines tend to fail more often (2x) as the half of the maps are designed to be push maps, and here the insurgents have advantage based on territory.
A strong INS team with a weak UMC team will be 100% fail on a push map and will get UMC players rage quit.
As said before, I think this game is not suitable for a public server.
Anyhow if you are in the need of players to seed the server, let me know. I did not abandon the game totally. its just the case that I did not had any fun while playing the last couple of weeks.
So far so good. Sorry for the messy post, but there was a lot to cover.
