How Do You Stay Informed?

Post by CastleDoctrine » Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:15 am

Since I'm planning to slap together my first home-built PC within the next 18 months, it occurred to me: where can I find reliable, up to date, information and reviews regarding computer components?

So I put that question to you. What sources, print or online, do you use to stay on top of the game?

I use www.tomshardware.com quite frequently.

I browse theinquirer for general tech news, and look at anandtech for reviews.

That place is good.
When I'm building a new computer I usually find the most expensive AMD and Intel chips then find benchmark tests for them and see where they fall. Then I'll find something that's close to that quality but not quite as expensive.

Hooray for Google.

I used SH/SC (serious hardware/software crap) forums at somethingawful.com last time I did any PC building, but that was 3 years ago (I can't belive my PC is 3 years old but I digress. . .) I always found what they published in their wikis/guides much more accessible and thoughtful than any specific hardcore hardware sites.

I've used Tom's Hardware as well. I also use Newegg and read reviews on the hardware there.

I use vr-zone.com for information, nordichardware for the most accurate information, and evga.com/forums if I want to keep up on all GPU news.

I'm not a fan of theinquirer.net as they are the most snobbish site on the web.
