My PC is doing an ugly crashy thing....
It only happens on DODS and Total War II (TWII very rare). The PC changes tone, and I loose signal to my monitor. (get the no signal msg. and the light on the monitor goes red and starts to blink) The only thing I can do is push the reset button on case and reboot. (Ctrl, Alt,Delete thing don't work) Last night when I would log back in the server it would still show my on.
I have a custom PC.
MSI mainboard
2800+ AMD cpu @ 2.2 Ghz
BSG 7800GSOC video card (agp)
1 Gig of ram (Corsair)
Help!!!

Sounds like a dodgy graphics card, or a graphics card overheating and locking up...
Are you overclocking it? If it's a nvidia, did you ever install that overclocking add on...? If so, just reset to factory default settings and run that for a while and see if it helps!
IIRC, your card isn't even a year old....

Re: Video issue
I do have it over clocked, but my cpu doesn't seem to have enough power to work my gpu very hard. I don't think I have ever seen it get over 47c. Will back the clock off and watch the temps a bit closer. Will also keep ya posted. Thanks Dog.

Ricen, my new Pc was doing similar things after I dropped in the new video card. I was trying to get by on the factory power supply and it was the weak link. I put in a new 550W power supply and the PC is happy now.
I dont know what is recommended for your video card, but if you have lots of other demands on the power supply then perhaps its causing the issue.

Yeah, just to emphasize on what JD and Dog have said, check your power supply requirements.
Also I know this is probably the first thing you have done, but check for newer NVIDIA drivers. Or if you want, check out www.omegadrivers.net (they make gaming drivers for video cards, specifically for gamers
)
How is your overall airflow in your case? It could be crashing due to the case temperature if there is insufficient air flow. If thats the case, try adding an extra fan, or look at PCI fans that blow directly on your Video card.
Hope some of this helps

Re: Video issue
Well, I backed the clock speed back to normal and it seems to be working now. I also checked out the specs. on the P/S. I am fine on volts and watts, but short on amps.
That may be the problem.
Can a steam update change your video settings ??
Everything was set to recommended before, but the recommended settings had changed.
