avgsx is associated with avg. Is it scanning right now?
Here's the problem:

"The resident shield ( aka on access scanner )( avgrsx.exe) on any antivirus program is suppose to read/test files before they are ran... so AVG is simply testing the items that Windows is starting during its boot process."

According to the AVG Forum dude, this process (resident shield) scans every windows file before they are able to get started. So basically every time I restart, I need to expect five minutes for this thing to do its scanning. It scans opening, or starting files. This kinda sucks.

Still don't know why I could not boot into windows yesterday. I haven't had the BSOD since then...but directly after the BSOD, I was just getting a blank screen after the Windows logo. Maybe SP3 fixed it? Who knows?

I hope you got this fixed but just in case you didn't...

You probably have an infection from the Vundo Trojan. The best tool I have seen to get rid of it is Malware Byte's Anti-Malware. In almost every case though I've had to remove the infection by hand. AVG will most likely not be effective. PM me or email me at dredfox@gmail.com if you still need help.

EDIT: You can also send me a HijackThis log. Download and run HijackThis and I can analyze the logfile for you. Unless you have a rootkit infection, it may fix the problem for you.

I wouldn't upgrade to SP3.

When service packs come out, usually wait six months to a year, until it's visible said as stable. SP3 has had a lot of trouble with computers, (especially if you have a premade one, like Dell or HP) So holding off would be in your benefit. I I would wait, and as personal advice. Free doesn't always mean GOOD. Know that when you consider antivirus protection.

Should I install SP3??? I don't want this Antivirus XP on my system. I just had to clean up my parents PC because of it.

NOOOOOO!!!

That's the thing, its slowing down like its scanning, but its not. Apparently it only does it during the first five minutes of window's booting up. Once I get to desktop, it takes a few minutes for everything to 'ease' up. I've never had this problem before.

Last night I went ahead and upgraded to SP3. So far so good. But I'm still getting the slow down on startup.

edit: Ya know...I'm starting to wonder if my CPU is going out...it is 3 years old...
CPU's should run mor than that..

mne is 6 yrs old

also, with every update, they tend to break more stuff than they fix.

my Ubuntu had its locales corrupted with the 8.04 update, and now i cannot install anything on my Linux laptop.

thing to take away from this is if your system is working fine, dont screw with it and upgrade to something else

Downlaoding...

I'm probably going to reformat anyway. I've not had any other problems other than the AVG resident shield thingy scanning when I reboot. I hope its no Vundo trojan, according to AVG, its normal.

Just scanned using Malwarebytes anti-malware. It didn't find anything.

You can always run a backup or all your 'sensitive' or important data before doing any major update or software install.
