Re: TV5
Yes, it's true. I've joined the communism. With 1.9 delayed until Minecon, TV10 is going to be in creative mode for a while. So I've decided to join the communism and build something.
However, I wanted to build in deep water, so I tried to find 1.8 ocean as close to spawn as I could get. Building underwater is slow work, especially when the water is 18 blocks deep. So it's going to be a little while until I have something worth showing.
EDIT: So I just found out I'm building really close to the Northern Woods nether portal. Convenient.

Re: TV5
Welcome [back]!
In other TV5 updates:
The Stockyard is finished, we just need 1.9 to bring some animals in and get them reproducing.
The nether hub has been started but could use some work. There is now rail to get from the Town Hall Portal down to the hub (at bedrock level) and then continue on...right now the only rails head north.
I plan to finish the surface rail soon as well, but am only planning to take it as far as people's homes for now.

Well the pig spawner makes some of that easy, but how do we get the cows and chickens to corral? I wonder if there will be lassos to wrangle up us some critters. Knowing Notch, we will have to make canals and use water to float the animals into the Stockyard.Flash wrote:Welcome [back]!

Fishing Rods Noodge, fishing rods.
But, I wonder if things will work properly on 1.7 land?

Re: TV5
So I'm just curious what the official plan for TV5 is in light of this news we all knew was coming.
I've heard rumblings of a full server reset upon the release of 1.0...

Re: TV5
What do we suggest?
KRG has asked to keep the diamond, which I'm looking into, or I zip up the world files and post them for all to access.
Then I'd do a full reset.
But when?

Re: TV5
Maybe a week or even a few days after 1.0 comes so maybe we can prepare a destruction day can happen. But that's only my idea.

Thanks Nerevarine King for the banner!
TVC '10-Hale's Angels (3rd place)
TVC '11-League of Evil Villuns (2nd place)[/spoiler]

Re: TV5
I was previously a big proponent of a "crop" to save town and generate new land outward. However, the more I think about it, now my personal vote would be for a total reset. JD swayed me.Dog wrote:What do we suggest?

Frostdillicus said it best, some of the most enjoyable times on the server were when everybody was pitching in to build town. I'm actually kind of looking forward to a fresh start, with a big group effort to build town and gather supplies for use by everyone. Eventually we'll start branching off and building little homes for ourselves, but the group projects on Teamspeak is where it's at.
As for when, I'd vote to zip up the files before 1.0 drops so we'll have the world preserved for download in it's current state. 1.0 is supposed to be released Friday, so two days doesn't give us much time, but I assume most of us will want to play the new version pretty quickly. If we are going to reset, I also see no reason to delay it.

Re: TV5
Initially I thought it would be nice to leave the server alone and just travel some distance to find new lands with the new features that 1.8 and 1.9 would have given us.
unfortunately that ends up being very glitchy and new land is hard to find, for example to the north from the portal I traveled 4K east in a boat and never found anything but small islands.
Other issues with the old land from prior to the upgrades include problems with mobs spawning (friendly ones), no strongholds, no new cave systems, and so on.
I think we do need to reset the server and start from scratch, backup the existing server and make the files available for people who may want to revisit TV5 from its first days of fun.
My thoughts would actually be to wait for a few days after 1.0 comes out before doing the reset, let them get all the bugs fixed before we reset. Then once we reset jump on in creative mode and fly around for about 1K in each direction to see if we have a promising map to work with.
One other thought comes to mind, do we actually need two Minecraft Servers? Since Stevo switched to the 1.9 pre release most people have been playing there ant TV5 has been empty. Stevos server is not very crowded, theres lots of area to work in, no crazy land claim issues, and a good community being built. Do we need TV5?
I can recall two reasons TV5 came into being, the first was due to the land claims on Stevos server and how crowded it was at one point. But as peoples interest in Minecraft dwindled they stopped visiting and there were vast areas that you could not develop, mine, explore as they were ear marked for someone else. The other reason TV5 became popular was for those of us that lagged on Stevos server, it was frustrating at times and I think it was due to having 10 - 20 people online at a time. TV5 would generally only have 5 or so people on at once and that made life much easier on us laggers.
So I wonder do we reset it, or do we turn it off for now?

Re: TV5
Whatever the community decides is fine with me. No need worry about saving the diamond, just go with what the community wants. Reset anytime, get it over with.
I would enjoy playing with more people as are on TV10 but not at the cost of losing the great atmosphere on TV5. From what I hear, TV10 has fixed it's early problems and if that's the case, I would happily play there again.
Doesn't really matter to me.
Just like building with you fine folks.
