Re: Minecraft Vanilla Server - RESET
Looking it over, I think I am most excited about the banners! Heraldry! WOOOOO!
There are a ridiculous number of options. Thirty eight patterns, which can be layered up to 6 layers deep, and can each be applied to 16 different color backgrounds, and which can in turn be able to be applied *in* 16 different colors each as well. There are enough patterns that every human on earth could have half a million, and never repeat.
I hereby move that we should establish a College of Arms for our Minecraft server, when it is updated to include banners. Each player can create and register their personal arms for use on the server, and the rest of us should (voluntarily) respect that. I would be delighted to build and maintain an official building where the arms of each player are displayed with the owners name, and where folks could come see what's been used.
Not to get too far ahead of things, but I would propose that no player can register a plain field of color without pattern - those should be available for use by everybody without limitation (not that there would be a rule prohibiting people from doing whatever they want, but again, it would be nice to voluntarily respect each others' banners as a bit of fun). Folks working together could choose to do their own fully, or could adopt a collective base with brisures for each person. Similar for our families that play. All sorts of fun possibilities!

These are features being implemented for 1.9 ^.^Gizanked wrote:Except that they keep adding things like armor stands and colored beacons and red sandstone.BlackHawk_989 wrote:apparently they have confirmed that the feature point of 1.8 is done

Actually, those are all 1.8 according to the gamepedia wiki:
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Red_Sandstone
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Beacon
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Armor_Stand
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.8
I didn't know about red sandstone, but armor stands and colored beacons have been on my radar for some weeks now, and are by all sources I've come across, definitely in 1.8. I also concur with the sentiment Gizanked expressed: the MC devs are -supposed- to be feature closed, but they're continuing to slip non-bugfix stuff (like the above-mentioned items) in, which will invariably stretch the release date even further.
If you can provide any references indicating that these features are in fact going to be in 1.9, and not 1.8, I would actually welcome that news from a QA standpoint. New, unscheduled features late in cycle tend to make problems. It would be a shame if all the work that went into actual bug fixes and engine improvements (which is what 1.8 was primarily supposed to be about, and supposedly why it's taken so long) were spoiled by bored devs putting in a bunch of brand-new bugs in brand-new features at the last minute.

Re: Minecraft Vanilla Server - RESET
I like your banner idea AF.
Re: Minecraft Vanilla Server - RESET
I had tried to put together a Ville logo banner for spawn. I'm sure that we can find a good way to make it.

Re: Minecraft Vanilla Server - RESET
I think the closest I can come up with without actually being in game would be a white banner, with a purple roundel and a white saltire over it. Might have to replace roundel with lozenge, but we'll see.Gizanked wrote:I had tried to put together a Ville logo banner for spawn. I'm sure that we can find a good way to make it.

Depending on your aesthetic aim, doubling up might improve things:

ThisAlizée Fan wrote:The last reset was the night of Oct 26th/27th 2013, so the yearly reset time is coming up in about two and a half months. If 1.8 drops before then, I hope there will be consideration of a reset for that patch, as the copious new resources and improvements are things I'm keen to check out. Alternately, if the patch isn't until a short time after that, I'd say we ought to wait for that patch. No point doing a reset just before new content comes out and then waiting a year with the same old, same old.
