Can't play TF2 because it crashes

every time I launch tf2 the screen resolution keeps switching back and forth until the comp eventually locks up. If by a strange chance it finally loads into where I can find a server I pick a server and once I enter I see the welcome screen with server rules then windows pops up with HL2.exe has stopped working. Any ideas? I run vista student for whatever that is worth.

Sounds like it might be your video/directx drivers.

What about downloading and installing latest drivers for your card? Can you give us any other hardware specs? Did it work previously and recently stopped working? Do other games of similar vintage work ok?

Yeah, I'd try what SU suggested, sounds like a video card issue. Wonder if it could be his refresh rate at all? Would that make his resolution go all funky?

I just installed it on my laptop machine. It doesn't run games that often but it is capable. I will try DLing and updating the newest drivers/ DirX stuffs and I'll let you know how it works on Monday.
