How does the response time on LCD monitors work, as in do I want a higher number like 13ms or a lower one like 5ms??

The response time is typically a grey to grey number. There is no industry standard to calculate the response time so the manufactures do it their own way. The lower the number the faster it can change colours. This will lead to no ghosting. When you get down to 5ms lcds, you do want to check to make sure they still do 16.7 million + colours as a lot of the faster panels are only 6bit panels and only do 16.2 million colours.

Faster the better with 16.7 million colous or more.
