Cant boot from CD

Post by Gen.Ben » Tue Jul 10, 2007 6:11 pm

Okay, I need to do a repair install of windows on this other PC I have.

I boot it up, I can press DEL fine to get into the BIOS, I select boot from CDROM, I save and exit the BIOS. When it says "Press any key to boot from CD..." I try, but it doesnt work, it waits about 5 seconds then boots into Windows that is allready on the Hard drive. When it gets to the "Press any key" part, It seems like my keyboard is unplugged then because none of the keyboards lights go on.

I have a Dell Generic USB keyboard, I have tried a Logitech G15 keyboard also.

I have allready tried resetting the CMOS jumpers, but that did not work.

Please help!

try a regular non-usb keyboard.

If you're trying to repair, it might not be loading drivers for usb stuff

It was the keyboard, I just borrowed a friends PS/2 connector keyboard and am running the windows setup now.

Thanks all.

there will be an option in the bios for that. depending on which one and version could be anything like "enable USB" "usb keyboard support" etc.

but as youve got a ps/2 keyb plugged in youre fine and dandy until you need to do it again :P

If it's an older box and not for gaming, you should throw a copy of Ubuntu Ultimate on there.
http://ubuntusoftware.info/ultimate/ Linux is finally getting easy to use.
