Rivatuner

Post by BETTEH » Sun Jan 04, 2009 2:13 pm

Anyone here familiar with the program? I've tried doing some reading but i guess somethings just not clicking for me, the reason i ask is because of my card.

I have a 4870 512mb Radeon, it runs hot, 77c idle, so you can control the fan through the Catalyst control which i manually set the fan to 50% (59c idle now). It is my understanding however, that Rivatuner will adjust the fan on the card accordingly to the temperature its running at, and i see that it has a profile to edit, but i'm not sure of all of the settings and which are optimal for me.

Or reply would be great :)

Yes, I use to use it, however because I use EVGA products I've been using EVGA Precision. It's basically a simplified version of Rivatuner with Clock speed and fan speed options. I know that Nvidia cards will adjust their fan speeds automatically based on the temperature and I'm sure ATi cards do also.

You also need to know that the 48x0 series runs very hot to start with (hotter than the 8 series from Nvidia). 77c seems a bit high, the cards top out at 105C (which you shouldn't ever reach). You can always message me over steam for Rivatuner help. If you are at 50% and 59C that seems fine (my 280s at 40% run 45C but that's with 7 case fans), unless you think it's to loud.

I used rivatuner back before my athlon xp / evga 6800 machine died.

I'm pretty sure you can modify your video card's fan and clock settings w/o it nowadays.
