Itunes is only okay listening to it on the computer if you really hate it, masterchef. Personally I love my ipod. It's probably the most valuable thing I have besides my DS.

The quote is just me rambling about itunes
One day the iTunes/iPod haters will fall. I would have deemed myself an all Apple hater, not too long ago. I tried all different types of music players. I even had hacked versions of iRivers that played videos because that was something I wanted too.

18 months ago my mother won a 32GB touch and there was no way she was going to use it. Since she still wanted one I bought her an 8GB and took the 32GB, pretty good deal on my part. I will say that I have been 110% satisfied with my iPod Touch and dont even think about it anymore. iTunes has been just fine for me and actually has probably organized my music better than anything I have tried. I've ripped several movies and TV series to it and since have bought an Apple TV that I think is great for what I need it for.

With that said, since you are looking for non iTunes, I would agree with the Sansa. That is about the cheapest a person can find that is worth anything. Zune, and sometimes Creative, obviously have good reputations but they are more expensive and do not offer anymore than you are looking for.

I had the iriver transmitter too, but it fell apart on me. My wife used one for the iPod, and I have an external XM radio with an AUX port I use. BTW, if you have XM.... the SkyFi3 allows you to use a microSD card with mp3's. I used that too and actually liked it before I got the touch. Plus it was XM, portable, and light.
I prefer the ZuneHD for larger budgets (can't stand Itunes or Ipods or Apple for that matter), however for affordability I use to use a Sansa Clip as well, they're well made devices.
yeah i love my zuneHD, but its rather expensive. sansa sounds like the way to go

So my clip+ doesn't play mp2 files. Does anyone know of any freeware that will convert mp2 to mp3?

I use an old copy of YAMP I got around 9 years ago for swapping audio formats around, and I haven't yet found reason to replace it. I don't know if I've tried an mp2 on it, but it would probably take it.

Really? Wierd. I only have one .mp2 on my entire system, but Yamp handled it no problem. I simply ran it in .mp3 mode and it didn't bat an eye. I wonder if my .mp2 file is just mislabeled?

xilisoft audio converter let me transcode the mp2 files to mp3.

Yamp gave me no such option.
