Crashing problem

Occasionally when I try to join a server or when the server changes maps TF2 will stop responding and give me the looping sound thing when it's done loading. I'd have to go to the task manager and end the task, when I try to get back on the server it will succeed without fail. I've never had a situation where I get the crash, try to join again and crash again. TF2 will not crash during the game, only when I join a game or the server rotates the map. This issue is odd and I can't think of anything that would cause this.

Any ideas? Here's some information from my dxdiag file if it helps:

I dont see a video card on your system info...

i am guessing its shared ram for video memory as well?


the cause to this is mainly outdated video adaptor drivers...


try upgrading those, the see if the proble still persists...

another good solution is to troll the Steam forums if you have the time.

Didnt yev have this same problem with his laptop?

After following some directions I've determined that it's not a paged pool memory issue. I had crashing problems in other parts of the game previously and tried this with no luck, but that problem was fixed by a driver update.

I'll test a few rounds with no sound and see what happens.

It could be related to your steam client....

delete clientregistry.blob and restart steam???

Probably not, but it would help to eliminate that as a problem.

Deleting the clientregistry didn't work, but I think I finally found the answer.

It turns out that Vista Service Pack 1 has a fix which improves memory management for games. My computer for some reason did not show SP1 as an available update and I had no idea SP1 was even out yet. So I had to go DL the 440MB file and install it. So far I've had no crashes, but it's too soon to tell right now because this crash is inconsistent at times.

After I finally found the magic search term I needed in Google I finally found this out. There's a million different reasons why TF2 could crash.

glad you brought this up because I have the exact same issue except with my laptop. Of course you can't update the video drivers except through the manufacter (toshiba) 7300 Geforce Go.

I have SP1 but still have this issue. Going to play around with the other solutions posted here.
