Things you'll need as we go forward:
+ An ethernet cable to connect your laptop directly to the D-Link for setup. (Do all of the setup with a hard wire, don't switch to wireless until we are done.)
+ The network settings that your current router is handing out to your laptop (Router IP, subnet mask, and what IP is assigned to your laptop).
+ You'll need to decide: Do you want your new bedroom wireless network on the D-Link to be setup so only your devices connect to it? Or do you want to set it up so that any devices in your house can roam onto it for a better connection? (This will decide if we setup the D-Link with the same Wireless SSID Network Name/encryption key as the old router or if we give it a different name.)

No problem. You just want to make sure your new D-Link is NOT acting as a router and that DHCP is turned off on it. Otherwise you'll be double-NAT'ed which can cause performance issues.

For all devices to roam you just want the Network SSID Name and encryption key to be exactly the same as the main router in your parents room. This way devices will just pick the best connection wherever they are in the house.

Another thing worth doing is making sure that both the old router and the new D-Link are set to use different WiFi channels. Setting one of them on Channel 1 and the other on Channel 6 or 11 for example.

So my wifi be working fine till today when i wanted to move the router so unplugged it when i plugged it back in at its new position it wasnt allowing my laptop or mobile to connect ive now spent all evening an night trying to redo all the settings but its not working

So it sounds like you've had to reset the D-Link back to factory settings? You'll need to plug directly into it via ethernet to redo your settings. Can you pull up the configuration page when plugged in directly with Wi-Fi disabled on your laptop?

nope neither my laptop or pc can connect to the configuration page when connected to d-link via cable

However when my laptop discovers a wifi signal put out by d-link i can connect to configuration page and set it up however it then puts out the signal but has no internet access

I fought with a problem like this for going on 3 weeks. In my case I was trying to connect a Buffalo wireless routher to my Netgear router. Tried an AP config, no luck, tried setting up a client, no luck. Eventually had luck setting it up as a Client Bridge. If you want to try that setup here's the link to DD-WRT,

I know it is for DD-WRT software but it may give you insight into how to set it up.

MGP, try doing a full factory reset on the D-Link then re-configuring from scratch. The manual has step-by-steps for how to configure it like you need:
